Is anyone possesed with the past? I think I am last night I spent 3 hours looking at [i dont know what I just write] adm]mnd [/i dont know what I just wrote] making maps with 1935 and 1958 of where I lived as I child. Very interesting the changes from 1935 to 2000. Anyone else's government make overhead pictures of where they grew up? I mean 1935, I didn't think they had planes fly over a whole province and document it in pictures. Very crazy.

Would post a comparison pic of 1935 and 1958, but its 6 mb jpg. :( I wish to know more about what happened to places/buildings as time went on. Might ask my grandfather as he might know. Our railroads ceased in 1989, and the previous pics show a railroad I remember briefly as a child. (in the city)

Are humans fixated with the past? Is the past more important than the future?

My parents cottage is the left side next to lighthouse--mini lighthouse (the big lighthouse was moved back about 30-50 years ago) and most other buildings seen in pic are not present in 1935-1958 except one.(arial view)

BTW I have been thinking this over. Anyone have Gov sites that show pics from the past that you can compare to the present? I got my provinces', but will show more if more people show more and are interested. :)[attachment deleted by Gobalopper]

Edric and I touched on this once in our debate... As far as I can remember he chose the future as being more important. Progressing, getting better and suchlike. He can explain it better than me.

I on the other hand favour the past. I don't think we're progressing, I think we're getting worse and worse. Global warming, Weapons of Mass destruction. The rise of capitalism and democracy (no connection)...

The past, on the other hand... Magnificant architecture. Fascinating politics. Warfare that wasn't, to put it bluntly, cheating. There may not have been soft toilet paper but there was grand halls, great castles and palaces; autocracy was the rule of the day... And the ozone layer was whole. And Bush wasn't born. And mobile phones, automobiles, etc did not exist.

I like the past.

This does extend to recent research. There's a town near me that is actually the third on that spot with the name. The first sank into the sea; the second into the sand... There's more but I won't bore you with local history.

Well I guess I wasn't asking whats more important, the past or the future. I might have been trying ot ask is any one else is obsessed or interested in history/past. I am interested in castles and hopefully some day go to one, particularly one of the big ones shown on this website.

I enjoy taking history classes, but I cannot write essays so I don't take many. ;)

Any other government have well documented pictures of a province and such from the past?

No Dustscout I found that interesting how a town can dissapear and reappear.
