What do you guys think of Timothy Leary?

I see him as a very intelligent person, and one who has hopes that make sense at times. Instead of having the government controlling how people should and shouldnt use drugs, the government should be controlling the sale and marketing of drugs, so that the danger from the streets would be abolished, and that the truly harmful drugs can be abolished.

A huge problem though is the danger that drugs bring, and the fact that Timothy Leary is an extreme optimist. For a long time I abused Fantanyl, (China White) which is a synthetic opiate that is almost 40 times more potent than haroin. It was fun for a time, but there were a lot of close calls, almost falling asleep for good. It eventually became such a habit that I did china white in order to just feel normal. Drugs are extremely dangerous, and even though I think that some of the legal restrictions that western society puts on them are flawed, I think that the idea of opening drugs to people will lead to even more problems. People cannot control themselves with drugs. Lets put it this way, could you control an exctasy so great that it made you feel feelings that are undescribable, that are heavenly? I dont think so. It is like being with a manipulative boyfriend/girlfriend. You start out in control, but because of all the emotional feelings you get from your partner, and the feeling of satisfaction that nothing can beat, you become attached to that partner. It becomes an obsession that cannot be stopped, even if you want it to be stopped. I think the problem is, most people who advocate for legalizing drugs only do so because they have never experianced true addiction. Optimism can be good, but rarely benefits anything, and I just see a huge ominous problem with the idea of legalizing drugs. It seems that people dont know what they could potentially get into, and dont understand how hard and almost impossible it is to stop something that feels really good. Often the greatest dangers and greatest evils in existance are those which make you feel good. Those things that "satisfy" you can actually sucker you into something you cant get out of.

Do you guys agree? or disagree? that drugs are dangerous, and that we should rethink the ideas of legalising narcotics.

Legalizing Drugs can help to curtail the sale of dangerous narcotics. But with the legalization of dangerous narotics they would have to insistitute laws regulating the sale and consumption of such drugs.

In England herion is legal but you cannot just go into a store and buy nor optain a prescritiption for your habit. It is an in house medication only and is only supplied to addicts in a rehabilitive setting.

In Holland POT is legal however it can only be sold by licensed stores, cannot be privatly sold and can only be used on the premises of the store where you bought it, you can not carry it out of the country with you.

However, there will always be a black market for controlled substances no matter what is legalized and people will think up new drugs to create.

Yes legalization of illegal narcotics is a step in the right direction. But will it stop illegal drug use or drug addiction? No it will not.

I live in Holland and i think its a stupid idea cuz its a lot easier for ppl to get drugs this way so more ppl are using it here. It has some good sides 2: the drugs are beeing controlled so dont get bad stuff that makes u totaly sick and Holland gets a lots of income from druguser who come from an other country, but I think its not good to make drugs legal and I think ppl who use drugs are weaklings who can`t face the reality its sad to c those ppl and makin drugs legal will increes the use off drugs.

One other thing I would like to add is in Legalizing Naracotics I am speaking only of those that have a theraputic use. Not LSD,Estacay, Speical K, etc. They have no use in society except to get you high, addictied and to lose your sanity.

It's a serious offence to deal any illegal drugs, including cannabis, heroine, ecstasy, cocaine, and others. Posessing drugs won't get you into too much trouble, usually; police tend to turn a blind eye if it's for your own personal use, and you'll only normally get a small fine; exceptions are 'harder' drugs, like cocaine.

However, drug users who are in rehabilitation may receive some limited supplies from the NHS, I think.

I certainly wouldn't say it was legal, though (unless they changed the law wwithout me knowing, and knowing this government, quite possibly).

Tio:

The word "intelligent" and "drug" go very well together. It's not a matter of intelligence.

TMA:

I think that drugs are like any other addiction, but stronger. The danger is to wish to get only the superficial "feeling" instead of getting the real "being". This is like these monkeys that clicked a switch and got an orgasm: they killed themselves by not taking water/food. It's exactly the same phenomenon. Now, perhaps drugs can lurn something to someone but it seems like exceptions (get drunk once, you may understand "uncontrolness" and see your limits, depending on who you are). Maybe I'm only a weird exceptions, who knows :D

Desire and addiction are really going under the same rules, so perhaps you'd be interested into reading a short condensed text about epicurians versus stoicians which philosophies have "desire" as a central concept. It's the case of buddism too, which would be closer to stoicians.

Personally, for many reasons, I aim for reality, I want to optimally, absolutely be. I define as hedonist, vain illusion what is not based on reality, which is where are rejoined each part of the puzzle constituted of EVERYTHING (in opposition to my own individual, which is hedonism and drug experience). No incoherences with the pattern out of my own person. All is a coherent one. My goal isn't to feel happy, but to be happy. Not to feel, but to be.

they dont use haroin per ce, but synthetics and natural extracts from the poppie, haroin is relatively crude, using all five of the opiates, but hospitals and other groups usually just use one or two of the opiates in the poppie, like codine and morphine. ketamine (special k) and drugs like that are actually not street drugs, but are aneasetics taken from hospitals for use illegally. these drugs mentioned are all legal to certain parties, those that hold licsences to dispense them, and are placed in different narcotic classes because they actually have beneficial health purposes when used right. drugs like MDMA, tryptamines,LSD, etc are the types of drugs though that are not usually sold by licsenced dealers, and usually the only legal holders are chemists and doctors studying the chemical itself.

Suprisingly, people have the wrong impressions of most drugs. While unprocessed amphetamines, opiates and others of the sort are very very harmful, certain illegal narcotics are actually pretty tame. LSD for example has almost no bodily side effects, and the only danger it brings is psychological, even then the people effected by it are long time heavy users or already mentally unstable people. Same with cannabis. They are maintained illegal for good reasons though, because they do hold danger to kids who easily can get sucked into the stuff.
