the term "xtian" originates from groups that have anti christian sentiments. Many groups still use that term and that term only for christians who hate them. Go look at the websites. Tio didnt use it for that purpose and I believe him, but others use it for more sinister reasons. It isnt a big deal, just a small annoyance. It really isnt to hard to write the christ in there.lol The groups that started using it followed suit to take the name of christ out of it. It is synonimous with christianity. Take malcolm X for example. The X stood for the things he threw behind him, such as smoking, illiteracy, and christianity.

Not trying to nag, just showing you that it is similar to the term "nigger", in that it is used now days for different purposes than it usually is used for. Even then it's original purpose was to call somebody "black".

Some people might be sensitive to it, that is all I was trying to say.

I have gotten those things. The people who hand them out are so insideous... I don't like to get those things I feel like I will got to hell if I throw them out. I usually leave them on the train for the next victim.

Acriku is correct, we have established that it was the christians who started using it first, as I recall. Have you ever written "Xmas"? Exactly the same thing. The origin is the greek letter CH (written X), the first latter in 'Christ', and its use is equivalent to, say, calling Social Democrats SDPs. Anyone taking offecne should be aware that it's only an abbreviation (and if they still don't like it, then at evey instance of their use of the word "Nazi", instruct them to insert "of the National Socialist German Workers' Party").

it wasent started by christians, I could be wrong but you have only given me a logical educated guess. I have just noticed it used by many who dislike christianity. I dont know many christians that use it, but almost every person who has a grudge against christianity I know uses it. It has meanings and sentiments that are anti christian. As I said in my post, it could be a slang, as the term "negro" might be, but african americans generally dont like being called that. See what I mean? I might be wrong though, and if I am then this is all just a personal opinion of mine and will stop bringing it up if people wish that, dont want to stir up any trouble.

I dislike fundamental Christians, yet I do not use 'xtian' ? I also do not find it demeaning, as if it "takes Christ out," but anybody with Greek knowledge knows that it doesn't take Christ entirely out, and it is easier to type.

what was that about greek knowledge? it has nothing to do with greek.lol Christian simply means partisan of christ, taking out the christ isnt a big deal as I said before, just think it is a tad silly to require not typing in a few extra letters.lol Also it is very true that many use it as a demeaning term. just letting people know, so that they can make their own judgements

Well, I know all to many who use "xmas", which is basically the same thing. But worse, some pronouce it 'eks', not 'kh'.

Surely it's only demeaning if used maliciously?

true true, and I will take what people say at face value, but surely you can understand that some people have sentiments that are somewhat distasteful towards christians, and it is annoying to deal with.lol

you mean people pronounce it Eks mas? like actually saying the letter X alone? hmm
