American Psycho (small spoiler)

I finally got around to watching this, and was kinda disapointed. Everyone I know who saw it said it was amazing, but really brutal, and then there was the whole hoopla about how some groups found it disgusting and misogynist, etc, etc. and really demonized it.

It was a decent movie, although the ending almost ruined the whole thing for me, I mean, wtf were they thinking? I haven't read the book so I don't know if that's how it ended as well, but seriously, this did not need to be a mind-fuck movie, and the attempt to turn it into one really hurt it. Is he or isn't he? What really happened? Why is Willem Dafoe so stupid? If it didn't happen, then who the hell cares? Did only some of it happen, then what did happen and what didn't? Why is Willem Dafoe so stupid? Sicne there's a sequel that is about the survivor of his crimes, does that mean that it was real, or is she just a fantasy within a fantasy type-deal (I'll admit it, he wouldn't be the first person to fantasize about Mila Kunis)? And why oh why is Willem Dafoe so stupid?

The name of the movie is a bit of a misnomer, they guy isn't really a psycho, what he is isn't really real. Psycho's are easy to catch, they have absolutly no control over themselves, they are mass murderers, not serial killers. A little bit of this tendency is shown, but Bateman's clearly not a psycho. Nor is he a true lust-murderer like those infamous ones he constantly quotes (how is it possible none of his yuppie friends have never heard of Ed Gein or Bundy?! Why is Willem Dafoe so stupid?). Because of those flaws, it isn't really an exploration of the mind of a killer, which is really what I had anticipated seeing. Sure, I didn't think it would be truly accurate, but still, even Red Dragon did better accuratly showing a serial killer.

I laughed, the movie was pretty funny, some real nice dark moments. I have no idea why all those people keep complaining about how sick and violent this film is, the vast majority of violence happens off screen. You see much worse in many a less reviled film. Maybe it's becasue the director tries to make Bateman sympathetic? I dunno.

As for the mysogany, hello the guy's supposed to be a serial killer! Of course he hates women! On top of that, the director of the film is even a woman, and she called American Psycho a feminist movie because of how it painted all the men as vain, greedy, lifeless suits.

I got a real David Fincher vibe watching this, with the dark subject matter, dark humour, and Jared Leto getting his face bashed with an axe. Fincher is one of my very favourite directors, and can only imagine how much better the movie would have been in his hands.

Decent movie, but not near as great as I had heard.

i've seen some really vulgar and obscene sexual clips from this movie. like the director wanted it to serve as a soft-porn B movie. i haven't seen the actual movie

years ago a friend told me that there is a really funny scene in it about how he has plastic all over his funiture and his guest is asking him "why do you have plastic on your furniture?" and then he comes back with a raincoat and axe or something, and the guest asks: "why do you have a raincoat and axe?". i am not communicating the humor in this very well, but the way my friend described it to me, he made it sound like it was one of the funniest scenes ever and based on how he explained it, i was laughing just from that.

There is a bit of softcore level sex, but the way it's shot it is obviously not trying to be erotic, and is meant to reveal a bit of Batemans cahracter, which it suceed's in doing. There is very little of it.

That scene is fairly funny, I believe Bateman is playing "It's hip to be square" in the background and talking about how great it is.

If you're looking for really dark comedy though, stick to Fincher's flicks. There are some hilarious dark moments in this film, but it's still not near Fincher's level.

The obsession over business cards was my favourite part. I had a friend who loved this movie, he actually bought a DVD player just to watch it when it was released.

btw don't watch the sequel because it sucks, well the little bit I watched before shutting it off did.
