Hi,

I'm deaf, and I've just bought the Dune Emperor game. But I don't see any subtitles in the movies of the game, very important to me because I can't hear the voices. Unfortunately, I supoosed there are no.

But I saw at the release message of patch 1.07 that the subs will be enabled again, due to the bug in patch 1.06.

Where can I set the subs???

Thanks.

I feel sorry for you.(Not sarcastic,I really get sad when people who are deaf, etc, buy something(For instance Emp),and then learn that it doesn't have that option that they heard about)

So,are you completly deaf,or can you hear somethings.

If you are semi, turn up your headphones/speakers to full blast. If youre completly deaf...Bug EA until they make captions ;) :D :)

It isn't much to hear, anyway. Think of what they might be saying. All the nobles of Atreides speak in a loud, proud voice, the Harkonnens laugh evilly and rasp, etc, and the Ordos talk....wierd :)

:( Too bad.. but the gameplay is very good. So I won't miss it.. And my brother or girlfriend can interpret the movies.

Yes, I'm completely deaf, but I'm not sad about it. Just because I don't know what's about to hear (am deaf from birth).

Yeah.. I know about Harkonnens, Atreides etc. from the books (Anderson, B&F Herbert).

You know about the books? That's a good thing.

Maybe there is a program that converts sound into written speech somewhere, or maybe the scripts for the movies can be made/found.

If you like discussing the books/miniseries/movie, discuss it at the Duniverse Board :)

the bright side is that once you get 1/3 of the way thru the game, the movies stop almost completely. there are a lot of movies at the start, and as soon as you get used to them, they disappear into nothingness. so you're not missing much.

do you get a "Unit Lost" warning at the top of the screen when something dies? i am not sure offhand because i always listen to the audio cue.

if not, then that's a real shame because no deaf person would ever be able to play Emperor in a competitive way.

But doesn't something show up on the radar when someone is being attacked/ unit done?

nope

that's what they *SHOULD* have tho. a beacon that flashes on the map at any time you are attacked (esp. if you have an outpost!). but unfortunately Emperor has no such feature and the only way to check is to use the "jump to incident" key when you hear an audio cue (perhaps a notice at the top too...). of course, the "jump to incident" key does not work about 40% of the time so even if you hear the audio cue and react instantly you may still have no possible way of knowing wtf just died ::)

perhaps someone could Mod this, since a beacon *DOES* exist in the Campaign mode of the game. if there was a way to take that beacon and make it useable in WOL games, whenever an attack occurs, that would be a *HUGE* improvement for Emperor gameplay to everyone, esp. deaf people
