Gob, Mods, what is the post length restriction and why is it there?

I have to post an article on here and I get the message that it's too long and need to shorten my post.

Gob, can I have permission to make this one post long enough to contain the article, or if not can you post it on my behalf, pretty please?

It's a restriction with the software, not a permission restriction.

Cut it up and post it in chunks, or put a link to it, or include it as an attachment.

Why doesn't Gob or someone edit the software (I am presuming you mean the software to run the website? I'm not very technically inclined when it comes to HTML and all that) to allow for longer posts?

It's a good idea to have this restriction. Because a thread page is always 25 pages at the max, and what would the dial-ups do if the 25 pages were 1000 lines each? Restrictions are to make everyone happy.

Because there is no need, nav. Big posts can be cut up. So there is no reason for gob to search through huge chunks of code to do it.

It's 5000 characters and I've already increased that a few times. If I didn't stop that then you could get huge pages. As someone said earlier just split it up.
