disk imaging applications

I'm planning to format my HD later today, and I would like to make a disk image, with all of my windows settings, and installed applications on it. Can anyone recommend any (free, preferably) programs that will alow me to do this? Thanks.

sorry, I do not know of any disk imaging program, although formatting computer is the best thing you can do for the health of a PC. :) I love formatting

Although I never use one (after a format I prefer to install everything new again. I might not use soem programs and therefore won't need them), I think I found one. It's downloadable here.

Depending on the Windows version you use, some of them have a build in backup feature. Back up everything combined with the system option and it should take all those files with it as well. Note that you need to place the installed programs in the same dir and drive letter location after youhave reinstalled as all the registry key's will point to those locations.
