Hey, anyone else having probs with the Kwisatz Haderach mod? I got the 2nd edition one, made sure the switch is on, but i get half way through loading the game and it just goes away. Gone. Looking at my desktop. WTF? >:(

was it by chance the "Kwisach Haderach" mod? Cause that one was doing it to mine. In fact, the only mod that i haven't had any trouble with is "air strike".

Sounds to me like it could be a codec issue. Try getting the divx 5.0 bundle. There should be plenty of places to download it for free. I used to run into probs all the time playing video. Now that i have the divx 5.0, it's rare for me to get a video that i CAN'T watch.

Finally, the forums wouldn't accept my password or any of the ones it got changed to. Well, I turned ZAP off and it started working fine. Then I turned Zap back on, and everything still works fine, so I don't know what happened. I can play a whole game now though, and that, my friends, kicks butt ;D.

Actually, in theory my computer rocks. The specs are impressive I know. But your 755 MHz plays dune while my 1.8 GHz gives me nothing but trouble. So actully, I'm thinkin its your computer that rocks. THe only thing running in the background is Zonealarm firewall. I don't think that uses enough system rescources to be causing the prob, but I could be wrong. Also, I am playing with a mod. I don't know if that could be an issue as well. I was able to play the game all the way through last night, but then i tried again and it shut down again. I guess it only happens some of the time.

Also, some hackers will put stuff on your pc that will send them info on what keys you press (passwords, credit card #s, etc...). If one of the lowlifes makes it past your defense, theres still a chance you can catch them trying to get back out. Docs got a good idea about the poll. 1 vote ZoneAlarm

Great for file swapping where not prohibited by law of course ;) -WindowBlinds completly changes the way your windows looks (nt based only i think) -TMPGEnc for all of your mpeg encoding needs -Partition Magic 7 (for those of us with one zillion gig hard drives} -Divx 5.0 Pro codecs -all Nortons 2002 pro stuff -ad aware by Lavasoft (I know thats been mentioned but it deserves to be mentioned again cause it rules) -Dremples if you have the system resources to spare (ok, its not essential, but it sure is pretty)

another thing to consider trying: go to the .exe file, right click, click compatibility tab, and run it either in lower setting or 256 colors. Not sure if this will work but it might be worth a try if all else fails. ;)

OH THANK THE GODS!!!!!! I am happy to report that the problem has been found and fixed. I have a GE keyboard that has hotkeys that require software to be set up. Upon shutting down the software process in the task manager, all games run fine. I no longer have any hotkeys, but if its between those and Dune, well, need I say more? Thanks everyone for the help. Ok doc, I installed the most updated drivers I could find. No good. I reistalled DirectX 8.1 (i have XP and since it comes with 8.1 already, i downloaded the one for 2k. Don't know if that makes a diff). Still nothing. The "test direct 3d" still says "You canceled the test by pressing a key". I tried it once with the keyboard unplugged just for fun. No difference. When i go to run the test it does act exactly like the games though. It fills the screen with black like its gonna bring up something, minimizes, then promps me with the test cancel thing. I think I'm gonna cry. What should we try next?

Thats all great advice and thank you, but I already run the zone alarm pro firewall and I have Norton antivirus (the newest one)as well. Everything looks fine from there so I really don't think its a virus. Any other ideas you can think of would be much appriciated. Nyarlathotep- Any idea why the test would say I am pushing a button and im not? I checked keyboard on another computer and it seems to work fine. Is this part of a bigger issue?

You should consider "Wish" by Nine Inch Nails. If you havn't heard it, you should close this window, get out of your chair, and run don't walk to the nearst music store and get it. ;)

The only test that should be canceled is the direct3d test. It says its canceled because im pushing a key. But im not. I tried it quite a few times, but thats always what it says. Also, Norton, PC-cillian, and Zone alarm pro are all saying no virus's. :-[
