Dune 2 eXtended Project

@MrFlibble FYI I'm getting comments on my old Dune videos that your download links are down when I can see they're not really down. I'm seeing this a lot now on retro sites as browsers like Chrome are blocking HTTP links with no SSL.. unless the host ( @Nyerguds ) switches to HTTPS then more and more people will be unable to download his hosted stuff.

There is a work around in that if you right click on the links and open in a new chrome window instead of a new tab it won't auto close, then you hit refresh and it starts the download. Most don't know about that trick or even understand the problem causing resulting in less people trying your stuff it so hopefully you guys can resolve the SSL issue or move the file elsewhere (eg ModDB or archive org) to avoid this problem.

It's fully playable mod? I have a problem with freeman compaign (3c mission i guess). Unit limits not allow me to constract enough army. I don't know is it my skill or what?

But the mod itself is very nice.

Just started playing this extended version on the Classic Games website, and it looks like this issue was never fixed. Unless I'm missing something, level 1 of the Fremen campaign is unplayable, due to the lack of your own construction yard, which I assume to be a mistake. You have a Fremen WOR, but an Ordos yard for no apparent reason, which your own troops start firing on immediately. However, the other two campaigns work really well.

Is there any chance the Dune 2 Extended project will ever be revisited and enhanced or developed?

If so, could versions be created for the three main computer operating systems (Windows, MacOS, and Linux)?

In many ways, this older style of gameplay is preferable to the later OpenRA incarnation of Dune. It could do with a bit of adjustment though. Battle 8 of the Sardaukar campaign appears to be impossible to win, unless I'm missing something, and of course the Fremen campaign has a mistake in it that means it doesn't work at all, as previously commented about.

You are missing something, but don't worry I fell for it too back in the day. Turns out human trooper units can capture severely damaged buildings in Dune 2 and the Fremen faction heavily utilize this mechanic. When the building is red and on fire stop shooting it and order one of your troopers to move in there and they will capture the building.

Dune 2 eXtended works in both the Dune 2 Legacy and Dune 2 Dynasty fan rebuilds for Windows. Legacy uses its own AI which might modify how hard some missions are for better or worse. There's no problem with the Fremen mission, it's just that a lot of people don't know about Dune 2's 'trooper can capture damaed building' mechanic.

Hi Blake. Thanks for the reply. So the start of the Fremen campaign is similar to what you do if you want to manually send a mechanised unit to the repair facility? Just a bit more difficult in the timing, if you have to wait until it's severely damaged, as it won't be long before it blows then. I'd never have thought of that - thank you.

By the way, have you beaten battle 8, playing as Sardaukar? I've tried several times and just keep getting wiped out. Far too many Harkonnen Devastators keep attacking, plus Ordos planes. Tried different construction orders to deal with the planes, getting several missile launchers early on, but to no avail. Can't seem to get enough units to avoid being overwhelmed by the Harkonnen either. Any tips?

My point about the operating systems was that it would be great to have the game on all three of the main computer operating systems. At present I play it on the web, as it's not available for MacOS. I'd love to see the game developed further too, e.g. more campaigns. Sadly, although I had a bit of programming experience back in the day, nowhere near enough to take on the job myself.

P.S. Just tried the occupying trick during lunch, and cleared Fremen battle 1 no problem - great stuff. Thanks again.
