Think of a stack of chess boards, decreasing in squares as it gets higher until it reaches the apex - one square. I guess it starts out with 5x5 or something like that.

5X5 would be tiny!

I'd say more 8x8 like a normal board. also, are we tlaking about each level being elevated in a stack, like a pyramid or are we talking about a totally separate 8x8 or whatever grid, then an entire 7x7 grid raised about that, entire 6x6 grid aboe that. etc.
