what if there was no jihad? I have thought about this. I will write out the info I have thought about while sitting and not learning at college.lol

*long explanation below of why I dont follow kevin and brian's works. read this before you post anything about my summation.

Its all summed up in one term and economic ideology, Free enterprise.

Of course this sounds silly because obviously the systems of economic gain in the duniverse are based on merchant trade, middlemen that held monopoly's to subject people to rediculous prices, and CHOAM domination over goods traded by the merchants themselves. These and many others are the reasons that destroy any sort of theory about free enterprise working in the duniverse. Wait though! the jihad hasent happened. Now of course without the jihad, things would be different. but what I havent really heard from people is how different, and what would the duniverse be like without it? I will tell you in my opinion what I think it would be like. hope its not too disliking to you guys. :)

Space travel would not have to depend on navigators and the spacing guild. This is probably the greatest setback for growth in the duniverse before time after leto's death and the creation of navigating machines. If this monopoly never existed, and ibrahim von holtzmen was able to finally solve the mysterious Unified Theory with his 4th theory of the holtzmen wave, then space travel itself would become extremely cheap. (technology would grow too, I will get to that in a bit) Because of cheap space travel and the freedom for anyone potentially to travel his or her own ship through foldspace, a freedom would exist that would be like no other. This freedom would not only effect space travel, but every single issue that troubled the known universe. As we all know, with freedom comes independant thought. No longer would people become cramped to their own world their whole lives with the advent of cheap space travel. This would destroy any sort of group (like the bene gesserit) to pull strings high up in the government systems, as well as create various dogmas on each planet. A secular society would rise from the innovations that were being made all the time. Secularism would lead to independant thought not only in religion, but also in education in general. people who could afford education like the middle class would not only see through the evils that religion cna bring, but also in politics and philosophy. This new secular thought would be the demise of dictatiorships around the universe and new parlimentary monarchy's would grow as the result. The parliments wouldnt just hold little power though, because of education there would be less fear of a government power. This would actually grow thoughts of the government serving the people and not the people serving the government. (just as john locke thought of) So since the rise of the people would actually overrule the power of the religious, political, and economic authorities, there would be a new free market.

I have finally reached to the whole key to what I was getting at. This new free market would stimulate growth in so many ways. Not only would products be cheaper because of technological growth and demand for new and better ways of living, but also because of the competition that would constantly be involved in the free market. the independant thoughts of the people would finally find a way out of the stagnation that feudel systems bring. I will make a list of how I think the duniverse would grow without the jihad.

+Ibrahim Holtzmen gives to the universe his Unified theory, the final theory of four concerning the holtzmen wave.

+Cheaper travel results, and thus the destruction of religious domination stuck upon the people by lack of information from others.

+Because of this new information, education would grow and those who could afford it would advance in ideologies of power towards the common man.

+independant thought would destroy the bondages of religious, and political dictatorships. no longer would the people be put down because of knowledge. Secular thought would aid in creating new enlightened forms of government. this would all give rise to new forms of economic and social practices.

+A free market would grow immediately from this new progressive movement and this would lead to a stimulation of not only economic growth, but an even greater drive towards advancement and understanding of the world around us.

+Unity of the people of the whole universe would finally be possible with the shrinking of distance from planet to planet. Cheap travel and new ideas as stated before would allow these various ideals to reach everywhere, and thus a universal unification politically, culturally, and philisophically would come about.

+This leads to the destruction of stagnation and the safty of mankind.

This is the kicker of it all. If this was the path that humanity in the duniverse would have chosen. The path of destruction for humanity would not exist. No longer would there be need of a man or woman to lead us to a "golden path". Because of this, people would advance thousands upon thousands of years faster, and with more purity and stability. The correct path was not chosen. Just think though if it would be!

That ends my ideas of how amazing the duniverse would be without the sickening jihad. Not that the jihad was bad in itself. It was the overzealousness of the jihad that made things like they were. instead of destroying the threat to humanity, it was absolutely expelled from the universe and the minds of every individual. A forced ignorance was made for most of the peoples in the duniverse, save a few who were able to gointo hiding after these brutle wars.

* I first want to explain that I part ways with brian and kevin j. Not that their works are invalid. Its actually the opposite. They claim that their writings are based on their own artistic license, and the

various notes frank herbert compliated. I still see so many fundimental flaws in their work though, and have no real taste for their idea of franks universe. I hold dear to the DE because it is more inline personally to my views on the topic of the details outside of the 6 novels written by frank. This is all just my opinion so please dont read this and just respond saying that I am wrong because I dont follow brian and kevin.lol I have read their books, but I just dont have a taste for them like I said.

by the way, to clear up confusion. When I say that if the jihad never happened, I mean the idea of all thinking machines as well as stigmas of just advanced technology in general would not exist. I am saying that obviously the destruction of thinking machines and their human masters would of had to happen. But in my explanation of an alternate duniverse, the religious zealot ideology would not be carried to the point it was. That the understanding of control and monitoring of humans and thier control of thinking machines would give viable protection to the people with the new ideas and ideologies of power to the people that would be created with the advent of cheap travel and a free market economy to give rise to greater educational awareness.

rsard, make sure you read everything. A jihad means holy war, and I said that a sort of jihad would have happened. It wouldnt have been a true jihad though. If a war was fought and it was just to destroy the enemy threat, not all thinking machines and those near to that level. that is what I was getting at. lol good grief.

with technological advance and easy, unmonopolized travel, there would be a strain on the power of the elite. I believe that it wouldnt exist because of this.
