Just today I heard a girl saying no to the you-know-what to her boyfriend, and her only reason was that god wouldn't like it. I imagine she'd be high-tailing it to the bedroom without god.

Congratulations, you've just admitted that religion can have a positive effect! Now that wasn't so hard, was it? :)

I wonder... what would YOU do in her situation, Acriku?

And you ignored the point I made in my last post: There is no such thing as "strength" in following rules that you set for yourself! You can only show strength or weakness in following rules that are set by someone else.

Of course religion can have a good effect, but at what cost? And can we keep that good effect without religion, as in is religion needed to get that good effect?

I wouldn't do it either. I have my reasons, of course - but not because a fairy wouldn't like it.

There is a difference between setting rules for yourself, and actually following them/enforcing them. We break our rules sometimes, for various reasons.

Following the rules that you set for yourself is usually millions of times easier than following rules set by someone else...

And as for the good effect - YES, I am certain that we absolutely need religion to keep that effect. To put it your way, Acriku, mankind is nowhere near mature enough to keep itself afloat without religion.

You mean as a whole, correct? There are individuals that can do this, and that do do this. But remember, this wouldn't be an overnight thing. A gradual secular climb to the apex of independent thought.

Oh, I have no doubt that you will TRY... but if I were you I wouldn't bother. You will fail miserabely.

How about trying to stop people from starving to death first, THEN trying to "enlighten" them?

Who said I would lead us to this apex? I will help, of course. I will be an activist for the truth when I have the time, and hopefully aid in pointing this world in the right direction. Of course, too many other things need to be fixed, but we should also acknowledge the fight for the truth while doing what we do.

Unfortunetaly, the "truth" you support is an illusion. And that is why I will always be there to stop you, my friend.

(always wanted to say that :) )
