Religion is not theism, not the other way around. Religion does not have to have theism, so religion is not theism. They are not the same things.

Liberal christianity can be consistent with science, like Edric for example.

Fundamentalist christians are young earthers (from a literal translation of genesis). This is against science and therefore are mutually exclusive.

huh? you going to stake the unreliability of potassium-argon dating as "mutually exclusive" to science for someone who raises that it is unreliable?

and what is the difference between theism and religion?

Potassium-argon? Try carbon, and uranium237 radiodating? Combined with geological evidence of the strata, and cosmological evidence and we have a not-so-young-earth.

Theism is the belief that there is a god. Religion is a system of beliefs, possibly to explain the surroundings for example. Theism is one belief. You get into a system of beliefs when you get into religions, such as christianity. It isn't only a belief in a god, it is that god created all and so on.

regardless of how you distinguish theism from religion, atheism still falls in a theistic universe.

Thanks Emp for admiting to me your wrong...You never posted your links. youi just tried to prove your point by posting a bunch of other qoutes. You are no better than president Clinton questioning the meaning of the word is..... ::)

Emprworm, let me explain how it goes: When an evolutionist posts quotes from famous scientists and statistics that show how many scientists support evolution, that is undeniable, absolute proof for evolution. However, when a creationist does the same thing, they immediately remind him that opinions are just opinions, and it makes no difference what scientists believe (except when they happen to agree with them).

See, it's simple!

(Btw, good topic. Personally, I got many of my ideas for arguments to support theism from Stephen Hawking's work)

of course. that's precislely how it goes.

then when confronted with the undeniable objective irrefutable hard-core solid steel facts that some of the most well respected physicists in the world agree that the evidence points to a created universe....they cover their eyes and ears and yell "thats out of context! that can't be true! No true scientist would accept creation as a reasonable explanation for the origins of the universe!"

See: No True Scottsman Fallacy

a classic atheist blunder

I was under the impression that the topic was about an Intelligent Design behind the Big Bang and the universe that got created as a result of it. That does oppose evolution. In fact, it supports it.

Ha! I laugh at that Empr. No one has ever said what you posted, so shove it back where your bs is spewed. And refer to my post right above yours - it is done so nicely.
