The MOAB is the most deavistating non nuclear bomb around and ready to drop on Iraq. Privately known as "the mother of all bombs" in military circles it has been under development since late last year. With an indefinite shelf life the bomb carries 18,000 lbs of tritonal explosives. Its an upgraded version of the "Daisy Cutter" a 15,000lb pound Vietnam-era bomb with 12,600 lbs of less-powerful GSX explosives.

The Dasiy Cutter was use to creat Imediate landing zones for heilcopters and could clear out a three mile wide area from the center out. They hope to scare the Iraq Amry into surrendering without having to use the MOAB.

Well according to the CNN report US doesnt really want to use it just to scare the Iraqi Army enuff into surrendering. I wouldnt want to be out in the open desert when that tiny bomb strikes.

Well it says in the paper that it will be used in Iraq and its not really that great compared to UK's Grand Slam bombs from WWII

Grand Slam was about 9 979 kg, how much is 18 000 lbs in kilograms?

The MOAB is 21,000 in weight filled with 18,000 lbs of explosives.

18,000 lbs = 8164.66 kilograms. At 9979 kg the grand slam is slightly bigger, but is that the total weight, how much of that weight is actual explosives?

Does it really matter how much it weighs? Rather the one with more powerful explosives will do more damage right? So you have a 22,000 bomb filled with snap n pops or one filled with 18,000 lbs of tritonal explosives which one would you fear most? j/k

Does anyone know the amount of explosives in the Grand Slam? Or is the munitions weight at 22000 lbs making the total weight around +/- 25000 lbs? Or is the total weight of the bomb 22000 lbs and the amount of munitions close to the same amount as the MOAB?

So, explosives in Grand Slam could be less effective than those in MOAB, that's sure. Why they haven't put classic TNT comparision as it's done with nuke firepower?
