Nyarlathotep Posted November 15, 2001 Author Posted November 15, 2001 A1ostsou1, did you change cdrom in your comp by any chance ?Nyar...
Guest A1ostsou1 Posted November 15, 2001 Posted November 15, 2001 I got a new Cd Drive a few weeks ago when my old one busted. The old one was a 52x speed, and the one I have now is a 48x speed. However, here is something interesting. On the 52x speed, the installation stopped while it was installing the file I00_F01E.BIK. Now on the 48x speed, the installation stopped at the file SNEKPEAK.BIK, which is at around 90% of the installation. The I00_F01E.BIK file was around 64%......very odd. ???
Nyarlathotep Posted November 15, 2001 Author Posted November 15, 2001 Radar, the file is not the fault. I searched Microsofts knowledge dbase and this is what came up:* Cause:This error message can occur for any of the following reasons: An unexpected event has occurred in Windows. An "invalid page fault" error message often indicates that a program improperly attempted to use random access memory (RAM). For example, this error message can occur if a program or a Windows component reads or writes to a memory location that is not allocated to it. When this behavior occurs, the program can potentially overwrite and corrupt other program code in that area of memory.A program has requested data that is not currently in virtual memory, and Windows attempts to retrieve the data from a storage device and load it into RAM. An "invalid page fault" error message can occur when Windows cannot locate the data. This behavior often occurs when the virtual memory area becomes corrupted. The virtual memory system has become unstable because of a shortage of physical memory (RAM).The virtual memory system has become unstable because of a shortage of free disk space. The virtual memory area is corrupted by a program.A program is attempting to access data that is being modified by another program that is running.* Resolution:Try running Windows ME in a clean boot. Here's how you do that:Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.On the General tab, click Selective startup.Click to clear all of the check boxes under Selective startup. On the Startup tab, click to select the *StateMgr check box.Click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes. After the computer restarts, Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.IMPORTANT: Look closely at the General tab to ensure that the check boxes you cleared are still cleared. Proceed to step 6 if none of the check boxes is selected. If you see a disabled or gray check box, your computer is not truly "clean-booted" and you may need assistance from the manufacturer of the program that places a check mark back into Msconfig. After you verify that your computer is clean-booted in step 5, you can isolate the issue. If the original issue does not reoccur after the clean boot, select one item at a time under Selective startup, and then restart the computer to see if the additional entry reproduces the original issue.I do not know if it helps, but can at least try...Nyar...
Guest Radar Posted November 15, 2001 Posted November 15, 2001 I just tried Emperor on two other machines running Win98.One p3 600mhz with 128mb RAM and a TNT2 card.The other a p2 350mhz with 128mb RAM and a voodoo2 card.The exact same error occurred. Really really weird.
Guest Radar Posted November 16, 2001 Posted November 16, 2001 Well not sure if i have the guts to do that msconfig routine, i`m not so advanced in that area. Nyarlathotep Posted November 17, 2001 Author Posted November 17, 2001 Radar where did you install DirectX from ? From the cd or from Microsoft's site ?Nyar...
Guest Radar Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 I`ve mailed WW but they haven`t replied yet. I downloaded DirectX from Microsoft`s site. Will try the msconfig stuff asap.
Guest A1ostsou1 Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 Nyar, I've e-mailed Westwood about 3 times and called them numerous times. I started getting ****ed off so I e-mailed Westwood my EAsy text file. I'm still waiting for a response.....
Guest Radar Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 Just tried the msconfig procedure, same error occurred.
Guest Radar Posted November 18, 2001 Posted November 18, 2001 I`ve sent the info to the tech support properly this time.
Nyarlathotep Posted November 18, 2001 Author Posted November 18, 2001 A1ostsou1, I'm glad it was a faulty install cd. Enjoy !Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 18, 2001 Author Posted November 18, 2001 Radar, sending an e-mail to ww tech support/customer service won't help. They will not reply. You need to submit the e-report via the support site.I'm almost certain that your problem has to do with directx or RAM, but I can't pin point the exact problem with it...I'll see what else I can come up with...Nyar...

Nyarlathotep Posted November 19, 2001 Author Posted November 19, 2001 Well, at least we know where to look :)What did WW had to say about it ?Nyar...
Guest rees Posted November 21, 2001 Posted November 21, 2001 Nyar,Below is what I just sent to WW. They keep saying the issue is solved, but apparently they aren't even reading my issue. I honestly believe DirectX 8.1 is causing this game to crash, but somehow WW is not even thinking about that. They keep pointing me to the FAQs that I've already read. If the FAQs solved my issue, then I wouldn't ask WW support. I think they are just blowing me off. Here's what I sent to WW:First, this issue is not solved. I've already read those FAQs above before I chose to contact you. I am a software engineer with 20+ years of experience and have a great deal of knowledge about Windows. Have you even looked at the attached files?I had no problem with the game until DirectX 8.1 was installed over DirectX 8.0a. The game stopped functioning after that occurred. I now CANNOT EVEN INSTALL THE GAME. Please stop saying the issue is solved before I respond BECAUSE IT ISN'T. What additional information do you need?I do not need updates for any drivers because the game functioned fine with my current drivers. It stopped functioning when DirectX 8.1 was installed. A causal analysis would indicate that this may be the cause. Also, no driver updates for sound and video are available. I have the most recent.I have been told that this game is very buggy. You should be concerned about that as it directly relates to quality.*********************************END MESSAGE SENT TO WWPlease help.
Nyarlathotep Posted November 21, 2001 Author Posted November 21, 2001 I'll upgrade to DirectX 8.1 too and see what it does *starts to pray*...Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 21, 2001 Author Posted November 21, 2001 Upgraded to DirectX 8.1 and EBFD runs fine, no problems...I'll try to come up with something Rees.Nyar...
