Guest rajzor Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 Did a another install of the game. Now on CDR drive, during which it did not return to the desktop. At first I didn´t update the game. I came till Atreides level 5. Then I thought it was enough for then and tried an internet game. Before that I updated the game. At the chat screen it crashed. A blue screen appeared containing the following:Windows, press enter or ctrl alt del... Filename: VWIN32(05) +00001906 Error: OE: 0028: C02A4ADEIt´s nothing to me, but maybe it is to someone else. Hopefully some support guys I tried to reach can be the rescuers....
Nyarlathotep Posted October 30, 2001 Author Posted October 30, 2001 Impz0r, thing is, you have a Celeron processor, which if you ask me, in combination with a Voodoo 3 isn't exactly the best combo to run EBFD. Install the Voodoo 1.04 drivers. Make sure you've closed all background programs (press [ctrl-alt-delete] and "end task" all what's in there, except for "Systray" & "Explorer").Try downloading the program "Cacheman".Let us know if the above already has been done and if not, inform us about the outcome !Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted October 30, 2001 Author Posted October 30, 2001 rajzor, as you now have had the second blue screen (and also again with a memory address), try removing some RAM. I do not know what kind of modules you have, but start with as less as possible. Swap modules if it's not solved immidiately (I even wonder if Windows ME can deal with 1024 RAM).Nyar...[This message has been edited by Nyarlathotep (edited 10-30-2001).]
Guest Impz0r Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 Yea i got all my drivers....you know iv never encounterd all this trouble with one vidio game...Screw it im gonna trade it back to comp usa for Civ 3
Nyarlathotep Posted October 30, 2001 Author Posted October 30, 2001 If anyone is looking for patch 1.09 (to download it without auto update):http://www.dune2k.com/files/emperor/patches.shtmlNyar...
Guest rajzor Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 WinME can´t really deal with 1G RAM, but with some modifications it can! These are in the system.ini. Add the following lines to 386enh:ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1And to vcache:MinFileCache=51200MaxFileCache=102400Before those changes, windows wouldn´t even start. But more important, crash problems also occurred before I put in 1G (when I had 256M).
Guest rajzor Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 When it´s gonna work at my pc it IS indeed a miracle. But I don´t believe in miracles anymore. Especially now that I tried to install XP on a 2nd partition. I came no further than 33% of creation... and you know what happens then? Your complete HD is screwed up...
Guest rajzor Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 Just had another nice crash. Straight to the HP bootup screen. I tried again the lowest possible graphics settings... which was a suggestion by someone at gathering.tweakers.net Didn´t work of course as we now by now.I sent my problem again to WW tech support and now also to the Dutch EA helpdesk. Hope they respond, beyond the automated messages.
Nyarlathotep Posted October 31, 2001 Author Posted October 31, 2001 The dutch department won't reply. I asked a question there as well several months ago, and still no reply. When you do get the automated reply, just reply back and state that it didn't solve your problem. Then a "real" person will work on it.Have you thought of the fact that the 256 RAM you started with could be faulty (just brainstorming here :))?Nyar...
Guest rajzor Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 Then both of my RAM are faulty? 2 512s and 2 128s? One each is faulty? I would have to try.
Nyarlathotep Posted October 31, 2001 Author Posted October 31, 2001 It's worth a try. Especially now that we now it crashed before as well, who knows, miracles still happen :DNyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted October 31, 2001 Author Posted October 31, 2001 Could still be due to a memory problem.I you ask me, you've got a weird system dude :)Nyar...
Maxpovver Posted November 1, 2001 Posted November 1, 2001 *bump*This is my first post in this thread.. just wanted some presence :D
Guest rajzor Posted November 1, 2001 Posted November 1, 2001 Well, and then there was XP..... let's see if we can finally eXPerience the game...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 1, 2001 Author Posted November 1, 2001 So removing memory didn't solve anything... I admire your determination to get the game working rajzor. I sure hope you can enjoy the game very soon.I do wonder however, if XP isn't going to give you the same or other problems as several users have tried to get it working.Never the less, we're here if you need us :DNyar...
Guest rajzor Posted November 2, 2001 Posted November 2, 2001 Thanks for your continuous attention for my problem nyar. Yesterday I tried to play in XP, but again it crashed, same way as before. Next I'll try updating drivers again. I do know that XP recognises the hardware in a better way. As my soundcard finally got named after the mobo. Before it was called Crystal. Now I'm at my parents home for the weekend and I'm gonna install the game here. On a PII 350, 64 RAM. But I'll put some more RAM in it, probably 256M. Next week there'll be some XPing again... cya!!Oh, and btw, I saw in another topic that you play EBFD with friends by LAN. Can I, or we, try this once. Please mail me if that's okay.

Guest truemouse Posted November 3, 2001 Posted November 3, 2001 whoa thats a big post, i just wanted my presence too! sorry i cant help!
Guest rajzor Posted November 4, 2001 Posted November 4, 2001 Well, that sounds very promising, except for the fact that I haven´t got a msi mainboard, but an Asustek VIA... and my BIOS is by Phoenix. I already tried to update the BIOS, but it wasn´t possible. But to be sure, I´ll check again...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 4, 2001 Author Posted November 4, 2001 DD-BattleMover, of course we'll help :DFirst off, the processor you have isn't all that, but you stated that it locks up randomly, so I guess it should work.Looking over what you've posted, I noticed the following:"DirectX Files Tab: The file vfwwdm32.dll is incorrectly installed in the Windows folder and should be deleted."Please try the suggestions made here (summary on page 18) and let us know if it changed anything.Nyar...

I don't think that should be a problem...Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 4, 2001 Author Posted November 4, 2001 Well, it wasn't just specially for you.I just copied it in here, cause I'm trying to get as much as possible troubleshooting tips :DBut getting back to you, I think you always should be able to update your BIOS.Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted November 4, 2001 Author Posted November 4, 2001 Battlemover, I went over your e-report and it shows something else that's weird:"Current Mode (Primary) : 0x22409 22832Refresh Rate (Primary) : Optimal refresh rate"Try setting the desktop resolution to 800x600 and set the refresh rate to the default. Then run the game in 800x600.Also, make sure you have all the background programs closed (exept for "systray" and "explorer").Nyar...
