the point was not about how 'buddah-like' such a statement is, the point was that saying it does not mean that the person is declaring himself to be superior. A true Theraveda Buddhist from the island of Sri Lanka would probably not make such a statement about one who folows the indulgent philosophy of LaVey, but nontheless that is something they would believe about that person, spoken or unspoken. Acriku's point was not about what was spoken so much as what one believes about others.

My argument is that the Theraveda Buddhist could hold a belief about someone (in this case that person would not go to nirvanna, attain nirvanna, find nirvanna, whatever you want to call it - like even the Buddah himself knows what the heck Nirvanna actually is anyway- ) and have no inkling of superiority to him/her.

Actually quondam (assuming you implied me in that) I argued that because it was late at night, nothing else to do but homework, and he being bigheaded saying since I can't read his mind I am totally wrong and that is that. Well that isn't that. I can't read his mind (which he assumes ;)) but that doesn't make whatever I theorize he is thinking wrong automatically. Not by that assumption alone. He denies all truth in my statement and frankly gets pissy when I tell him what I theorize to happen in his mind. Only he knows what he thinks, but he can manipulate what he says.

well anytime someone says that I am thinking something I am not and posts it on the public board, I will come to my own defense.

I can hold someone to be wrong, and still see myself as equal to them. Maybe its a gift I have. Maybe I am the only human on earth to have this ability. Or maybe you are the only one on earth that doesn't have this ability. I have no idea, except that I believe that every single Hindu on earth is wrong and I still don't think I'm better than any of them.

i dont need to nor do i care to convince you. when science proved the earth is round, it is not its job to ensure everyone believed it. Its only job was to make the information available. If you want to hold to your theories that you know what other humans are thinking, then good for you. I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise any more than I could convince a Zen Buddhist that it takes at least 2 hands to clap.

Empr, psychology is all about theorizing about what people are thinking. Cognitive psychology more specifically. I am in a psychology class, I have enough knowledge to theorize on such things, what is the big deal with that? You are afraid of not being domain to your thoughts, which are not as unique as you might think. My thoughts neither. But that's the very basics, whatever grows on the foundation is in the mind of the architect.

When I make a mistake (which I do), I appreciate it when people show me my error so that I may either correct the typo, or learn something I didn't know. If you were half a gentlemen, your next post will be highlighting my misinformation so that I can be more accurate in the future.

in this particular thread the only agenda i am pushing is that you do not know what I am thinking. I am 100% empirically right. You are not omniscient and have no ability to know my thoughts. I believe that One God rules the universe. HE is able to see in my mind ( you aren't), and he owns the earth and everything else. Any power the devil has is permitted by God who at any moment can strip it away.

i wouldnt say hardcore, i would say taking a firm stance when it comes to someone telling me what I am thinking.

And then when you say I am giving "A LOT" (your words) of mis-information, it naturally will lead me to directly challenge you to either cite the misinformation, or refrain from future accusations that contain no evidential merit.

You cannot just toss around personal accusations against someone TMA and then think you can get off the hook. You personally accused me of spewing falsehood, and then when I ask you to present such matters in specific format, you accuse me of being hardcore? Now, come on. You chose to dive into this debate, now you are in it...all the way in...so for you to get out, I want to see you back up that accusation.

mainly arguments are supposed to be non bias, thats why I dont like your opinions because they are just that, opinions backed up by other people's opinions.
