What kind of music do you guys think they listen to in the time of Dune?

The books probably don't say much about it, do they?

There are mentions of it... the baliset being the obvious example. I think the music is mainly cultural - caladan music is different to Giedi prime music, etc.

I would have guessed that on Caladan they play classical or opera.

And at Giedi Prime it would be Heavy Metal ;D

Yes that was my firs thought too. I think simota music is used intergalactically. It doesn't matter which planet are you on you can get the "ingredients" if you want to...

Remember that most houses have cultural origins (e.g. Atreides is Greek) - their music would reflect this.

But remember only House Atreides was Greek the folk of Caladan is not!!

There might be some greek influence in the Caladanians, since their people must have been led there by someone like the Atreides, presumably from Greece.

I would have to disagree with cultural influence in music at the future age. it talks about traveling bards going from one planet to another playing music. From what I see it is majorily folk-like music.
