Doesn't Windows Media Player Support the .AVI format?

i have WMP for XP Pro and it doesn't have it

Open Windows Media Player > "Tools" > Options > "File Types" > Checkmark "Video File".

If that doesn't work, I don't know what else will, unless an upgrade. heh

Can't .avi files also be encoded in DivX format? In which case I don't think Media Player can play without a plugin.

Sounds to me like it could be a codec issue. Try getting the divx 5.0 bundle. There should be plenty of places to download it for free. I used to run into probs all the time playing video. Now that i have the divx 5.0, it's rare for me to get a video that i CAN'T watch.
