SilverG
Hi, wanted to know why D2K isn't reading/showing the custom messages (warnings) that I have made through the Map and mission editor. Checked on use .ini and entered the string ID for the text ex.: 1400 and the custom text. When I'm playing the game, the message that appears is: Mercenaries. Can anyone help me solve this? Thank you.
FunkyFr3sh
Do you have the latest dune2000.exe? Post the map+ini in here so I can take a look

SilverG
Don't know why it doesn't work for me... Give me the .exe file...
SilverG
I have downloaded the .exe from this link: http://forum.dune2k.com/topic/26661-dune-2000-106p-game-patching-bug-fixes-new-features/ overwritten the previous dune2000.exe and still the message doesn't show. SilverG
on win vista.... or that has nothing to do with it...
FunkyFr3sh
don't think so :D Oh, and you might not want to add MissionNumber=1 to the .ini file, it would just freeze game when you click on the briefings button in game
SilverG
Hi, so here's the issue again, I enter the string number for example here 1405, and the text, used the patch .exe from Funkyfresh, but the message isn't implemented, and instead of my text it show Survival Mode. Please help.
SilverG
Oh and, FunkyFr3sh, the MissionNumber=x is automatically added by the Map and Mission editor. Should I delete it?
FunkyFr3sh
I added some debug informations, maybe that helps us to find out whats wrong http://funkyfr3sh.cncnet.org/files/temp/dune2000.exe You can set the MissionNumber to 0 and it will work fine, if you use any other number than 0 then you will have to create a new .uib file for the ingame briefing, check the mission launcher readme for a tutorial
SilverG
After setting the missionnumber to 0... an error message pops up: .ini file not found. I have change the MissionNumber to 0 both in the Mision and Map Editor and the .ini file. ANd it still crashes.
SilverG
Have overritten the .exe that you have sent me Funkyfresh with the older .exe and now everything works apart from the custom texts.
FunkyFr3sh
I added that crash on purpose, needed to know how far you get :) So for any reason the game does not even find the .ini file, don't know how this could happen
SilverG
Oh, so it was a test :) nice, well if you have time tomorrow morning I can install Teamviewer and you can check it out. Since I am working in the 2nd shift this week.
FunkyFr3sh
Sure, I can take a look :) Here is another file you can try, it will crash and display the path where it is looking for the .ini file, you can then check if the file is there or not http://funkyfr3sh.cncnet.org/files/temp/dune2000.exe

SilverG
Yup, seems that, the original D2K only supports the original string table.
Klofkac
I added some debug informations, maybe that helps us to find out whats wrong http://funkyfr3sh.cncnet.org/files/temp/dune2000.exe You can set the MissionNumber to 0 and it will work fine, if you use any other number than 0 then you will have to create a new .uib file for the ingame briefing, check the mission launcher readme for a tutorialI have another suggestion here:Dune 2000 could also read the Briefing from the map ini file. It would display it when you select Briefing in main menu (instead of looking for it into text.uib). This way, no more crashing, you can set a non-zero mission number and display the briefing from in-game.
FunkyFr3sh
Will take a look into it, busy atm with other things though
