I saw somewhere that we can edit the rule for Emperor: Battle for Dune.  There is the program named "DuneEX1.02" but I don't know how to do it.

If anyone knows or have done it before, please respond.

Thanks!

DuneEx, can be downloaded here. This site in the downloads section. But to save time, just download the Rules.txt file and the  Artini.txt file from http:editing.dune2k.com

Rules.txt and artini.txt must be located in Emperor/Model directory. In rules file you can't edit names of units or add new, but if you have downloaded that Kwisatz Haderach mod (...), you would find it out. But also, with only rules and artini you can add some unused units like sardaukar tank, apc, buggy and many more. Bigger expert on this matter is Nema Fakei.

Yes... when you've edited the rules.txt file, put it in a 'model' folder in your EmperorDATA folder.

NB: Remove any mods/expansion packs/whatever before attempting to edit the rules file.

Thanks for the many replies.  However, I made a Model directory under Data but there isn't any different to the game or how I should go about making my game to use the new files?  Also, at one point, my game crashed and I wasn't able to make it work but a reinstallation.

If you made a rules file YOURSELF, it may crash. First, try to start another rules, download from editing.dune2k or other. Maybe you've made an error - name of weapon or unit or too big number etc.

You can find some information at Dune Editing (see documents section) and you can download Mods from Dune Editing and look at their Rules.txt and ArtIni.txt files as examples.  Near the top of the Rules.txt file you need to add the names of any new units, turrets, bullets, warheads, and explosions you are adding under the appropriate headings.  Under the appropriate sections in the body of the Rules.txt file, you should copy the data from existing units, turrets, bullets, or warheads, to the new units, turrets, bullets or warheads names and modify them (many modifications won't work : if the XBF file you're using for the new unit wasn't designed to do something (like shoot), you can't make it do it).  In the ArtIni.txt file you need to set any new units, bullets, and explosions, to the XBF files they will use to display graphics and perform functions, and set what icons new units will use (copy from existing units or modify).
