What sites have you tried? And has it worked before?

whichever link I try it seems this error is new and that nobody probably had it before and yes I said this started happening a month ago and ever since that my bro is unable to play D2K anymore but yes before that it used to work perfect even better than my CPU cuz the problem in my CPU is that D2K freezes in just 10 mins I play :(

Could you simply leave the PC overnight on and do some hardware checks? HDD, RAM, CPU, MoBo.

My boot HDD failed 48hrs ago. It spitted bad sectors. I had issues with the sound quality for a few days and it was probably due to the fact that a file for the soundcard wasn't read properly. Finally no sound at all! I checked the HDD, bad sectors were marked (I shouldn't do that-my fault*) and I replaced the corrupted file. Rebooted and sound was OK. (Also some MS Office files were lost and so I had to reinstall it today). But of course you cannot rust a failing HDD, so I tried to copy the partition to my new disk. It failed to read, even though the bad sectors were marked. Norton Ghost gave a small region with unreadable sectors. I rechecked the HDD with the more thorough HDD regenerator which gave 5 unreadable sectors. With the same tool I repaired them (if I am not wrong there is no other program that can repair bad sectors) and revitalized the areas around them to be more sure. Then I copied without any issues.

* Do not check for bad sectors the HDD with windows tool. It cannot repair them, just mark as bad, and it will corrupt the affected files. Use HDD regenerator.

yeah like thats what I meant its a sound crash I get after just 10 mins of gameplay

for example I play as Atreides and when I build base the lady voice says Construction complete ete ete ete ete ete ete and so on

it also happens as harkonnen and ordos too like Harvester under attack ack ack ack ack ack ack ack and so on

and also our base is under attack ack ack ack ack ack ack

this all never happened in my Bros CPU as he could play as long as he wanted in D2K with no problems anywhere untill that annoying WinMain.cpp error came along although I did this

I made a D2K shortcut and added a -g and -f in the target line and only the -g works cuz somehow the game could now start but another problem is the cant see Menu (black screen) but can hear Menu Music problem

Same sound issues I 've experienced with many games (not only Dune2000), especially with older DOS stuff. Two applications try to use sound card simultaneously and they conflict. In such cases you have to restart or sound will not work anymore. Did you check CPU usage when this happens Alt-Ctrl-Del to see which program is the CPU eater and trace the fault?

Gruntlord can you provide some more insight?

I never ran into any sound issues, not even on linux (with cross over).

and when I did try the -g and -f in the D2K shortcut then the game does start like I can hear the Menu Music play BUT!!!!! I CANNOT SEE ANYTHING ITS ALL BLACK AND BLANK

and yes I did even try Compatibilty but no mater what its the same WinMain.cpp error over and over again
