Testing the Chicago hub map.

Was on the way to a double Gold win.  I had bankrupted all of the other chairmen; And, I was starting to merge their AI railroads.

Then I made the same mistake the US has made as well as much of the real world.  I took on too much debt to fast.  My huge debt eat up my profits and I received a margin call that I was unable to fix.  Well, another day another try.

With so much sad news concerning the earthquake in Japan, I haven't played much RT2.  Living close to a large underwater earth quake fault, it has me thinking of what preparations I need to make.  Extra food and water.  An alternate means to heat my home and keeping my gas tank full.  Even credit credit cards could become unusable without electricity.

Well heck!  My math stopped working again.  I made the mistake of trying to make the event a little more specific and smarter.

All I'm doing is counting track cells and giving a % of ownership as a status and win result.  I started with    (companytrackcells/gametrackcells) * 100.  It did not work.

next I changed each to a game variable using two extra events.  gamevariable1 = companytrackcells,  and    gamevariable2 = gametrackcells.  Added some extra status events so I could see at what stage the testing failed

put the variables into the math event.  still had a problem.  I tried putting the (*100) in different parts of the formula.  No matter what I did there was one thing or another that didn't fire true, correctly.  I also used a calculator to pretest each change I made.  Order of operations seemed correct.  Tried adding extra numbers and then subtracting the same numbers.

didn't work.  I wonder if the problem could be this old computer that  I have dedicated to this one game.  It is between 12 and 15 TEARS old.  :P  ::)

I'm not giving up yet.  The sun came out.  Don't see it very often.  Time to take a break.

Well, you definitely want to multiply by 100 before dividing. You also want to guard against division by zero. My experience has been that if an event ever has a chance to evaluate its trigger while its divisor is zero, then the whole event will be discarded and never evaluated again.

If you zip & upload the map, I can try it out.

The engine stopped reloading the map. So,I reinstalled RT2.  It seems to be reloading OK now.  I'll give the game events another try tonight.

Thanks

I've spent some time trying to figure out how the game engine adds track cells.

I ran the Hub map for one year. covered all towns with one of my stations so that no AI could build a RR. 10 AI's started but none built any rail

The company track cells were 833. The game track cells were 882. This means the AI owned 49 track cells,

yet no AI owned any track in their ledgers, nor did any show up on the map.

I ran the game for a 2nd year. During the year I planted one of my stations at every town, as new territories opened up for building.

These stations added 42 track cells to my RR and the game engine added 24 new game track cells. The number should have equaled my changed number of 42. It added less

These numbers make no sense.

Every chance I get I work on the faulty map Math, on my Chicago Hub Map.

Well, I removed all track built in the editor and found my problem; but, not a solution.

It seems I have 30 track cells hidden some place that show up as belonging to the Hub RR; But, they do not visibly show up on the map except they are counted in the mathmatics.

I even tried merging the Hub RR with another RR and the 30 track cells moved with the merge to the new RR.

I may just lower the win event percentages or something like that. Sure wish I had the source code.

Did you accidentally cover track with water in the editor?

I have done this in the past but the tracks alway stay above water acting like a long bridge on pilings.

I've been away on business and didn't take my computer knowing I would be in an area of high crime.

Maybe now back at home, I can take a fresh look at the problem.
