holidays, who has them?

Recommended Posts

We were talking about the 3 day week end, where we celebrating labor Day on Monday.

I need to pick up some supplies from the home store.  They are open all 3 days.

The food markets are open and nearly all of the stores that are having sales are open for the 3 days.

Almost without exception stores that sell things are open.

Fire and police are working. These people normally work on week ends and on holidays.

But they do have special schedules that give them every other holiday off, or some such arraignment.

Most union workers have the Monday off.

Most Government workers have the day off as well.

There are a few larger companies that give their workers that day off

Our congress takes about 2 months off now and more later.

I'm in the wrong business.

If you get any holidays off, you need to thank these guys. Also be thankful for safe and well lit working conditions, any benefits package (health/dental), and the 8 hour (or something close) work day. It was all because of unions back in the later 1800's and early 1900's. I would bet $1 that all of the stores that were open were either non-union shops or traditionally non-union service industries (e.g., fast food, department stores and the like).

I used to be a union member and I enjoyed these benefits.

What I don't like is the control the modern union has over the membership.

They often take away our free of speech in an effort to control us.

There are some things that are just not right and the union too often looks the other way to further its' agenda.

But then that seems to be human nature in this day and age where the dollar is all mighty.

I saw an interesting poll where people were given way, too much chance.  These people knew it and about 90% kept the excess change.
