Hi, all...

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

When playing the Mississippi Valley scenario I was able to connect the cities of Memphis, St. Louis and Indianapolis (bronze requirement) but the game didn't give me credit for it -- either during the game as I linked them or at the end of the game when time ran out.  But they really were connected (I saved the game if anyone wants to inspect it).  Oddly, though, the game DID give me credit for linking one of the gold requirement cities (Minneapolis I think) even though I only linked it to one station which was owned by another railroad.

I started another game last night and it looks like the same problem is happening.  (Memphis and St. Louis are connected but the status report says no.)

This is the first time I've run into a bug-like problem, but first I thought I'd check here to be sure it is a bug.

TIA,

Rikki

Rikki,

I thought I would be able to offer some assistance since me and Wolverine salvaged most of the threads from the old Gathering forum pertaining to a lot of the scenarios and grouped them together on my forum.

There were a few posts on that scenario but they may not be of any help.

Here's the link anyway.  ;)

Maybe you might find some info that will catch your eye.

Make sure your station is close enough to be connected to each city.

I don't remember a problem with this map, but then sometimes my memory gets lost.  :-\

Hawk, thank you for the link.  Took a look at the posts -- interesting!  Yes, looks like you experienced the exact same problem -- the game gave you credit for the northern connections but not the southern.  Whoever responded (Wolverine?) had some good questions like gwizz did, checking to be sure the stations were correctly placed and so forth, but I'm quite sure the connections were solid and the fact that we both had the same issue with that map sounds too similar to be a coincidence.  A shame, since I was really kicking butt in this scenario!

Does Poptop still accept bug reports, and fix them?

I just tested the Mississippi Valley map and looked at the coding.

1. You must be first to connect St. Louis & Indianapolis and St. Louis and Memphis. When this is accomplished, it will trigger a one time only headline and change Company Variable 1 to 1.

2. When Company Variable 1 is triggered, the Status page of the ledger will show that these connections have been made.

3. At the end of 25 years, if Silver or Gold have not been triggered beforehand, Bronze will be triggered if you currently control the company that first made the connection. You can check which company this is by pressing Shift-E to get into the editor and examining the Event Debugging page.

With the 1.05 patch if you hover over a station, the nearest cities will say Connected, Not Connected, or Connected by Another Station. Also, you should have been able to run trains between St. L and Indianapolis, and between St. L and Memphis.

For me, the events work properly, i.e. as they are written. However, they are badly written.

Thanks for checking into it in such detail, JayEff!

Interesting.  I'm almost positive I owned the original company that connected those three cities, but given that's it's been a few days now I'm not 100% sure.  That's the only possible legit reason I can see for not having won the scenario.  (I know I had St. Louis, Indianapolis and Memphis connected since I ran trains between each city regularly, and I'm usually careful to see the "Connected" status when placing stations.)  So, given that little shadow of doubt, I will give it another go and hopefully things will work out.
