Does anybody know what the angle and focal length of the camera is for the buildings in Dune 2000?

I was thinking 45 and 45, but perhaps not?

And what about the sun? just not 45 degrees?

Silo is good image to see it.

I think I figured it out. It's all 45 degrees and the camera is on orthographic. Only problem are the shadows, I just discovered they don't make any sense at all. The walls have almost 45 degree shadow or perhaps 30 degree, but some building have sharper degree and other have cut off shadows to fit the images.

Here is an silo attempt (bottom silo is my attempt) :

Good attempt.

thanks! it will probably be my last public attempt, because everything I tried afterwards did not look as good. cry.gif i tried the wall, wind farm and repair pad.

It's hard because first I need to get model correct, than I need the correct lighting, than the correct materials and after that also good textures. al thought it's an old game and the original graphics for the small resolution don't need that much texture, but sometimes small detail textures give the graphic that finishing touch.

the best way to recreate dune 2000 graphics would be with the original creating tools. something like max studio from the year 1999? but still than, it will be a lot of work to recreate the render settings. perhaps mvi or gruntmod knows someone from the old dune 2000 team and ask for some 3dmax (or sumthing) files?

MVI is good with game development, and has spoken to the previous developers ( not westwood, it was outsourced.)

IMO we should not stick to original settings. We should make a team, set standards that are similar to original but easy to use and make new graphics for an existing game engine, like the DUNE II clones. And IMO we should better follow isometric view and shadows be out of the sprite. Those days they could not afford a lot of shadowing and edge softening (aa) because hardware could not support it (alpha blending). It would be an overkill.

Thats not needed at all. Making a game is hard work. I would much rather keep the original game intact.

Also, the game now has a certain "game atmosphere" that will get destroyed with reprogramming everything. I was thinking, it would be fun to just change one party (like Ordos) and give them new buildings, units, sounds and of course some new missions. Like a 1/3 redesign, lol.

I am doubtful anyone that anyone here has the skill to accomplish such a feat. I am however, working on new missions.
