it dont looks like it was, maybe seriously there was some strange things appearing in dune before release, or maybe they were plnning to make another game similar to dune2k

I can definitely say that no company is going to develop a 2D strategy game anymore. So it rests on the community to do it. Here is nice example to follow:

Notice that it cannot be one man's work. There are literary thousands who have contributed in a way or another and more will join in the future.

First Dune 2000 should be completely reversed engineered.

Then rewritten.

Then alternative graphics created.

Then start adding new stuff.

(Some of these steps or part of them are required to bypass copyright issues, unless someone pays and gets the rights or requests copyright owners to make Dune 2000 open source.)

There is always room for 2d games of every genre.
