Sneakgab
The repaired CD's setup works fine. Did I misword something so you thought otherwise? Otherwise, I don't understand why you are not suggesting upgrading from it?
Dragoon Knight
Not sure. Probably my mistake. :)If the repaired CD works fine, then certainly try upgrading under XP. If it doesn't work, then it's up to yourself whether you want to risk trying it as a "new OS".The fact that it rips to ISO or equivalent just fine, but won't burn, seems to indicate to me that the files could be corrupt. It could have been a result of the original burn being too fast, or any one of a hundred other reasons. The safest method is still going to be sourcing the standalone executable patch, but it's up to yourself. :)
Sneakgab
Ok.Well, thanks AND sorry; Weve been at for ages. Indeed, it's not worth the hassle. Hardly anything would be worth such hassle. If necessary, I'll just get it from a friend.(edit)At a slower speed, the burn worked perfectly. Looks like youve done it again Dragoon Knight :D.So, now I should have a perfect ISO disk. Still, I do not understand what the difference is between upgrading from the copy or the original? Is it because of possible remaining damage to the repaired disc? Dragoon Knight
Thanks are appreciated, apologies not necessary. :) I make a point of being a source of tech support for anyone who needs it in my day to day life, so it's not something I begrudge doing on these forums.Again, good luck with getting SP2 or SP3 up and running. Sneakgab
upgrade doesn't work.''azcdqocv.sys file not found''.*Coils up into fetal position and rocks back and forth*.Should I still try the fresh install?
Dragoon Knight
I wouldn't risk it. It's not a cyclical redundancy check now, it's blatant missing files. Either that, or they're corrupt. Go with the mooching off a friend method; I'm sure they'll be more than happy to download SP3 for you then burn the executable to disc. :)
Sneakgab
Well, just one last thing then. Is there another game client out there that doesn't ask for serial keys?
Dragoon Knight
By game client, what do you mean exactly? Are you referring to a version of Renegade that doesn't require a CD-Key to play?
Sneakgab
Whoops don't know why I said that. I mean a Gamespy type thing. Some kind of app that sets up multiplayer, but doesn't demand a serial key, as is the case with most official servers.
Dragoon Knight
In my experience, Gamespy Arcade doesn't require that you enter your CD Keys - just that you have the game installed.Other than that, I'm afraid I don't. I tend to avoid external multiplayer enabling programs / services, unless the games are outdated and/or have a "cult" following, like Giants: Citizen Kabuto. :)
