Anyone know where I can download an audio driver for my Foxconn 661M03-G motherb

Recommended Posts

(edit). Pretty sure I found the right driver. Ran the executable and nothing. Can anyone tell me how to install a driver? (edit)

Please provide a link. Obviously I've googled and all that. Checked some foxconn sites too (Blegh, the Foxconn site appears to be broken and $h!tty, which makes sense because that's what their motherboards are usually like..)

I've been faffing about over the internet quite unsuccesfully for more than 2 hours now. If I knew the series the model was in perhaps I could find it on the net but I have been unable to find out the series so far (no documentation about my house as the motherboard was purchased years ago).

Also, not sure I would know how to install the driver anyway.

I actually have the drivers on a hard drive (currently set as my secondary hard drive till I find a damn jumper so I can make it a slave). However, I don't know how to install the drivers from there.

Tis all for my onboard sound.

Thanks in advance.

(edit) Now that I think about, I might need a whole bunch of new drivers. Just did a clean install of XP on a formatted hard drive.

(edit). Info on my motherboard, if it helps.

You're probably only getting the chipset drivers if you're going by the motherboard alone.  If you're using a program like Everest to check the specs of your hardware, then have a look under Audio devices, then PCI Audio.

Most chipsets with onboard audio like to "pretend" that it's a PCI device, and thus XP treats it as such.  It's likely you'll have the Intel AC97 set, which is easy to find a universal driver for, but post back with your findings, just in case.

Thanks very much for the response.

Well, I actually downloaded, extracted and ran the RealTek AC97 Audio driver (package 4.06) first things first since I recognized it... but to no avail. Am I to take it that these should at least be appearing in my devices list under sound, video and game controllers?

under Multimedia-PCI/PNP audio I simply get a blank page.

Here is my PCI device report.

Hmm, weird that it doesn't show anything under PCI devices.

Go to the Start, Control Panel, then System.  Under the Hardware tab, go to Device Manager.  Is there an entry with a yellow question mark against it describing an audio device (e.g. multimedia controller)?

I'm going to have a look around using the board's serial number, see what I can find.

First off, sorry if I kept you waiting or anything, what with you being the one helping all. Might have appeared rather discourteous but it did so happen there was nothing I could do about it (older brother = big).

''Go to the Start, Control Panel, then System.  Under the Hardware tab, go to Device Manager.  Is there an entry with a yellow question mark against it describing an audio device (e.g. multimedia controller)?''

Yes, as a matter of fact thats pretty much EXACTLY what I was about to tell you in my next post before my older brother hijacked my damn line for gaming.  >:( (since it's kind of funny I will add ;D)

I actually managed to find my motherboard disc. I then ran the driver install off it... nothing. Then I manually added the device... nothing.

After adding the device and attempting to use it (making it my active device or something I forget) I am greeted with the error: [code 10]

So then I went through the windows troubleshooters trying out most of the stuff until I finally arrived at the hardware conflict page, mentioning the yellow exclamation mark. I tried removing the driver and re-installing to no avail. Perhaps it is noteworthy to say that I DID install AC 4.07 before 3.whatever (found on the disk) as well as an audio device supposedly for my specific motherboard model. Still nothing.

That's when I was going to post here again.

That you apparently expected this, is a good sign that you are familiar with this error and that I may soon once again dine upon the pleasures of digital sound (my ears are hungry).

If the link I provided in my previous post isn't working, then try the following:

1. Uninstall the device driver entirely.

2. Restart your PC.

3. When the "Found New Hardware" wizard appears, let it try to find the drivers by letting it connect to the internet.

If this works, then great.  If not, then keep going:

4. Click Finish or Cancel when the wizard fails to find the drivers, and do so for any subsequent windows that pop up.

5. Go to Start, Control Panel, Automatic Updates.

6. Near the bottom of the window, there should be a hyperlink for the Windows Update Website - click it.

7. Choose Custom Installation when you get the option.

8. You may have to download a new ActiveX control if you've just re-installed Windows, and/or update the updater itself, but just go through all this until you get a list of updates.

9. Along the left of the Internet Explorer window, you should see "Hardware, Optional".  Click this.

10. You should hopefully find that Windows has provided you with the correct driver to download for your card, along with any other missing hardware drivers.

11. Tick the box next to the driver to add it to the list (along with any other Software Optional or High Priority ones you want to download).

12. Click the Review and Install button, then Install Updates.

13. Say yes to any license agreements, and then sit back, because it may take a while if you're downloading more than one update.

Hopefully this will work when other options fail. :)

Well yes, it would matter. :P

If you don't have a genuine copy of Windows, you won't be able to access Windows Update.  Unfortunately, this means that you're not going to be able to get a hold of the drivers this way.

If the internet isn't helping, and you're sure you have compatible drivers on another hard drive, you might want to try copying and pasting the following folder:

C:WINDOWSsystem32drivers

from your other hard drive to your current one.  Note that it probably won't be C Drive, but E or F, and you'll have to slave it (check the jumper settings, you might find that slave is set by no jumpers at all).  Most importantly, when you get this done, do not overwrite your current drivers folder; just plonk the old one on your desktop or something.  Then, go to Device Manager (as I explained when I asked you to look for the yellow question mark), right click the device and choose "Update Driver".  Choose the option that lets you make the decisions about where to look, and tell the wizard to look in your Drivers folder that you've copied over.  It should find the driver and put it in the correct location.

Let me know how this goes, as it's pretty much the last resort. :P
