MrFlibble
A scenario editor that can generate terrain from seed values is yet to be created :) All existing editors that display terrain rely on Stefan's seed map method.EDIT: Added Dune II: The Building of A Scenario to the list. MrFlibble
ArrakisResearchCo's site changed the domain name to dune2.dk, and all links have been updated accordingly.
ArrakisResearchCo
Sorry to be correcting you MrFlibble but the domain is www.dune2.dk - without the "k" :)For now I have just moved the entire site to the new domain but I will be updating the pages again soon. dvalin
you're still missing libeastwood (and it's 'eastwood' tool using it) on yer list! ;)
MrFlibble
Oh, I didn't know there's an "eastwood" tool. Post a link and I'll update the list :)
dvalin
https://launchpad.net/libeastwoodIt comes as part of the python bindings shipped with the library. :)
MrFlibble
Could you also please tell what exactly it does (so that I know what category to put it in)? Does it allow to convert game files into editable formats?
dvalin
see http://forum.dune2k.com/index.php?topic=22082.0 ;)The eastwood tool implements most of the functionality provided by the library API (as listed in the post referred to),currently with the exception of midi (ADL & OPL), FNT font files, reading DUNE2.EXE structures, reading/writing of INI files.More functionality in progress. :)
MrFlibble
Added it under the "Miscellaneous Tools" section. If you think the description must be changed or expanded, just tell me ;)
dvalin
you forgot to mention EMC (basically a merge of segra's DST;) & text strings :PAlso it supports graphics scaling (scale2x, scale2x3, scale2x4, scale3x & scale4x) and sound sample rate conversion (aka interpolation)to enhance your output result! ;)
MrFlibble
Also it supports graphics scaling (scale2x, scale2x3, scale2x4, scale3x & scale4x) and sound sample rate conversion (aka interpolation)to enhance your output result! ;)Well, the main purpose of this thread is to list tools that allow to modify the original game, I guess this particular feature only applies to engine recreation/remake projects - or did you mean that extracted images can be scaled? (For Dune 2, you can use scaling filters in DOSBox anyway)
dvalin
when you decode graphic using eastwood, you can specify that you like toscale it to bigger sizes using scale2x (http://scale2x.sourceforge.net/) to get nicerlooking graphics than you'd otherwise would when scaling it.Same goes for sound, which you can resample it to higher frequencies and makeit sound better using libsamplerate (http://www.mega-nerd.com/SRC/).here you can see some examples of these options for eastwood: [peroyvind@localhost tmp]$ eastwood --cps --helpUsage: eastwood --cps [options] argOptions: -h, --help      show this help message and exit -o OUTPUT, --output=OUTPUT            save to OUTPUT -p PALFILE, --pal=PALFILE            PAL --scale=SCALE    Scale graphics using either '2x', '2x3', '2x4', '3x'            or '4x' --cps=CPSFILE    CPS[peroyvind@localhost tmp]$ eastwood --voc --helpUsage: eastwood --voc [options] argOptions: -h, --help      show this help message and exit -o OUTPUT, --output=OUTPUT            save to OUTPUT --voc=VOCFILE    VOC Resampling options:  --resample=RESAMPLE            Resample sound using either 'linear',            'zero_order_hold', 'sinc_fastest',            'sinc_medium_quality', or 'sinc_best_quality'  -f FREQUENCY, --frequency=FREQUENCY            Resample to FREQUENCY hz  -c CHANNELS, --channels=CHANNELS            Resample to CHANNELS channels  -F FORMAT, --format=FORMAT            Resample to FORMAT format, either u8, s16be or s16le
MrFlibble
The list was updated with links to earlier versions of Red Horizon Utilities (v0.24 is better for creating Dune 2 SHP with varying frame dimensions), kindly supplied by Nyerguds. He also mirrored the Red Horizon downloads at Nyerguds' Open Directory :)
MrFlibble
I've just realized that Segra's IDA Pro database was missing from the list, so I added it :)
Nyerguds
lol, not really a 'tool' though, and requires IDA Pro.
MrFlibble
lol, not really a 'tool' though, and requires IDA Pro.To quote Frank Herbert, "anything can be a tool" ;) And the database has proved itself quite instrumental in Dune 2 editing. Thalur
Hi folks, I have a problem using the XCC Mixer, maybe you can hint me to a solution there. I am trying to get the bene and intro images to use the correct palette, but I can't get this to work. I tried setting the Dune 2 directory in the View -> Directories dialog, but when I close and restart the XCC Mixer, the directory is empty again and I cannot select any palette.Does anyone have a hint on how to get the XCC Mixer to work? Where does it store its settings, could this be a problem with Windows 7? I am using version 1.47.I would appreciate some help with this. Nyerguds
It can't save the directories? That seems more like a rights problem. Make sure you run the program as administrator.
