Nyerguds Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Ahh, yes. That was probably changed along with the original setup because you could only select one channel. It annoyed the heck out of me once I got the sound patch though. It's really odd too, considering the fact the patch includes a new strings file.
Dunenewt Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I've got a floppy disk version, which isn't the Hit Squad or US version...
Nyerguds Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Isn't it just the 3-lanuage EU version then?Quickest way to find out is to throw my editor in your dune II directory, start it, and look at the lower right corner in the program :P
MrFlibble Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 I've got a floppy disk version, which isn't the Hit Squad or US version...Probably it's the US floppy release v1.0? 'Cause the US 1.07b/c patch is designed for the patched US version 1.07. If so, get the 1.07 patch from FED2k or from the the Westwood FTP.I thought the European version was CD-only, but this might be incorrect...
Nyerguds Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I dunno... I got it as floppy-sized installer parts. But it's possible it was just distributed like that, on the CD.
Dunenewt Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Dune II was published by a British company before the EU existed, so I'm a bit lost as to which version I have.
Nyerguds Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Well did you try what I said? Just throw my editor in your D2 directory and launch it. If it's not a new version we haven't seen before, the editor will identify it.It's probably just the US one though. I know that's what my old Dune II is. Though my bro brought that one home on copied floppies from school, cracked and all :P
Dunenewt Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 It is the original floppy, and I have the original manual as well. I'll have a look at the weekend when I'm back home.
MrFlibble Posted May 3, 2008 Author Posted May 3, 2008 Dunenewt, you can get the original US 1.07 patch here to update your version before applying the 1.07c patch.
Dunenewt Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 I was home at the weekend, and I looked at the floppy, and it said UK/French/German on it, if that's any help?
MrFlibble Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 Well, this probably means that the European version was released both on floppies and CDs. Does Nyerguds' editor recognize your EXE?
Dunenewt Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 I don't know, and I was only home for the day, so I haven't installed it. There are four floppies I'll have to find, and I only saw the one.
Nyerguds Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 there's an exe on each disk that's a self-extracting zipfile. So just copy it somewhere and execute it.. there's always a chance that it's the one with the exe in it.
MrFlibble Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 Updated all the files. First, the HitSquad patch is now 1.07c, so now it's on a par with the other versions of the patch. Plus, I added a modified font that has German vowels with umlauts to the HitSquad version. The other two patches are now 1.07c release 2, which mainly means I used a revised version of fixed and improved scenario files. Other tweaks include removing all German and French-related stuff from the US version 1.07 (since it's not a trilingual version anyway). Also, I added a detailed list of patch changes to the first post and to the readme files supplied with each version of the patch.
Sargon5 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 are you going to make an "advanced" version just like in the old AI patch?
Nyerguds Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Sargon5, the AI patch is included in this.I've decided to combine the merits of my Dune II AI Fix and Minniatian's Dune II EMC Patch, as well as some other minor fixes, into a single, easy-to-use patch.Oh MrFlibble, did I ever send you the url of the uploaded patches? They're right here...http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/dune/dune2patch/
MrFlibble Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 are you going to make an "advanced" version just like in the old AI patch?I'm pondering the idea of making a special "Hard AI" mod (rather than patch) that would be distributed as a separate SCENARIO.PAK file. That would be something like the "advanced" version, but better :)Oh MrFlibble, did I ever send you the url of the uploaded patches? They're right here...http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/dune/dune2patch/Great! Thanks a lot! :)
MrFlibble Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 Okay, here's another small EU version update (1.07c release 3). I have cleaned most text files within ENGLISH.PAK of spelling errors (there were some in the hints file, in the copy protection dialogue and even a barely noticeable one in the credits), plus all text was edited according to the British spelling standards (mostly affecting words like defense/defence, armor/armour and maneuver/manouvre), since it's a European release. Also I've re-instated the two missing Mentat database entries, namely "Sardaukar" and "Frigate" (I still don't get it why they had to remove those), and renamed "Rocket Tank" into the appropriate "Rocket Launcher" in the database. Another improvement affects the main menu screen: I edited the font of the title "The Battle for Arrakis" for a richer color scheme, as seen on the US title, "The Building of A Dynasty".[This version has been archived for not having been downloaded a single time]
MrFlibble Posted March 29, 2009 Author Posted March 29, 2009 I have changed the concept behind the patch: instead of making an "unofficial" update that makes certain additions (like the EMC patch) which were not planned by the developers, the patch is now a "fix" that cleans up all known errors within the latest release of Dune II, but does not introduce any new, "unofficial" content. The new patch is located here: http://forum.dune2k.com/index.php?topic=21532.0
