I need a program that can read and edit .dat files

I need a program that can read and edit .dat files. Does anyone know a program like that?

I tryed Editpad pro but I only see a file including weird codes like this: a9 41 00 e6 6d ff ff.

I know there must be a way to extract a .dat file with editpad pro.. but I just dont know how.

For general .dat file editing, you must open the .dat file in a hex editor, just like you did. The "a9 41 00 e6 6d ff ff" is the hex representation of the binary data in the file.

You know, .dat files mostly aren't human readable, and not structured in any special way, making it very hard for you to read them unless you have some kind of idea as to what it contains.

.dat format, ok, which game? An extension like ".dat" does not really say anything to me.

Its called "output.dat". I uncompressed BALCON.HSQ (Dune 1 File) with unhsq. "output.dat" is the uncompressed file.

Now I want to open output.dat and then I want to extract the files within that archive.

Then I can edit them  ::)
