I went to windows update, and it is installing everything.

It got to IE7, brought up some screen, asked to validate, I did and then it said it was going to check the internet for IE7 updates. Now it says it is installing IE7 updates, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

My firewall is not blocking anything.

I'm trying to kill the process, but that's not working and my computer is at 100% cpu now.

What a joke.

whatever you do don't stop an IE7 install when it's has started... . Just waith and it will finish.

If you have stoped it to soon and your Windows installation starts acting weird download the IE setup from another computer and install it again. :)

Yah, their are now two weird folders in windows explorer with files.

And I did stop it from installing, will try again from windows update.

This is where it seems to get stuck at (progress bar works).

I think it is installing properly now. I didn't check the "check for ie7 updates and malicious removal software" option this time.

Ok, so IE7 installed. It told me to reboot and I did.

So I start up windows and it loads really slow and my background picture looks like crap.

ieinstalledak5.th.jpg

I check the settings and everything is normal. Even tried to load it again but same thing.

Also note the question mark icon at bottom right on taskbar. It is the language toolbar or something or other. I didn't tell Microsoft to install/enable that software. I found how to turn it off.

I opened IE7 and ewww, how ugly! Also runs very slow. Oddly it is for some reason blocking ads on websites. (ok  not all ads, but I thought it was odd.)

omg it takes focus when it reaches a webpage when you are using another program!

Also those temp installation folders are still there with all the files.

Even wierder is after updating IE7, for some reason ubuntu linux was unable to connect to internet. I know they are not related at all, but I thought it was weird.

FFS windows now runs at 100% cpu all the time!?!??! Hmm, maybe not all the time, but it seems to be at 100% a lot more often and runs very slow.

EDIT:I choese another background image, the rest work fine. I rebooted. Then I go find the background image I want and it looks the same in wallpaper. But opening it in image editor etc looks normal. I do have 32bit color depth which it requires (it doesn't look those weird colors when in 16 bit anyway).

Yep opening foobar200 and playing music has my CPU at 100% which is not normal. It is normally at 10-20%.

Ahh it drops to normal cpu% about 20 seconds after starting it. Very bad.

I open my instant messenger and CPU goes to 100% another 20 seconds which is not normal.

Yah, IE7 has destroyed my computer.

After opening IE7, CPU goes to 100% for same amount of time for no reason. I have a feeling it will do this with every program.

Huh? I checked in add/remove programs and IE7 is listed there. It says its only 5 mb, while those temp directories contained 40mb...

I thought you couldn't uninstall IE7? Why is it listed there? Gonna try "uninstalling" it

I uninstalled IE7, the wallapaper now shows up fine although I still have the 100%cpu problem (maybe it was there before)

Gonna look for a system restore to be sure.

Restored to yesterday (not a good restore since that is when I originally tried installing IE7, but I don't ahve anymore restore points).

Starting foobar2000 causes 100% cpu for several seconds (after it is fully loaded, and no music is playing!)

Yep this is serious. I start winamp, and it loads normal, and after it is done loading, CPU goes to 100% cpu for 10-15 seconds. no music playing!

Opening media player classic casuses spu to go to 100% for same amount of time. Maybe it's codec releated. VLC player has no cpu issues. LOL spoke too soon! afeter opening vlc player, cpu went to 100% cpu for 10-15 seconds.

Free download manager is 100%cpu as well... so it is not related soloey to audio/video. opened FDM again and it did not have 100%cpu.. wtf.

Opening utorrent causes 100%cpu..

Ok, I got process explorer running so that should tell me wtf is going on with CPU.

Umm, wtf?!

cpunb4.th.jpg

Is the problem. I open a program, it loads fine then broadcast background agent sucks up all the CPU for no reason.

Wait wait wait.

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/dssagent/

says this .exed is spayware??

I've had this .exe on my computer for the longest time, I'm pretty sure I read it is not spyware.

http://www.cexx.org/dssagent.htm

says spyware that can use lots of cpu

omg!

Killing the process worked and stopped cpu usage.

I just ran avg antivirus yesterday and no viruses found. And I'm convinced I've had this program running for a long time.

I just ran antivirus on the folder dssagent is found and avg found no virus.

Dssagent found in my msconfig

dssagentok0.th.jpg

Although if spyware, one website says it connects to websites, but my firewall is not reporting dssagent.exe as connecting to the internet.

Hmm, they say learning company is responsible for it, I have several learning company games, and I probably installed one a couple months ago. Installing avg antispyware to look for it.

avg antispyware isn't finding dssagent as spyware??

Ew I set my firewall to allow dssagent.exe cause I thought it was normal.

don't take any risks and reinstall.

now you know why MS claims that 3th party tools will hog and bring down Vista...

You can try the Malicious Software Removal Tool from MS. Although a reinstall whould be my first action.

btw. Those folders won't go away as the install is aborted and IE7 is listed with your installed applications.

Reinstall what? windows? Or you mean IE7? IE7 caused lots of problems. So I uninstalled it and deleted temp directories. I might try to install again once I figure out what this dssagent.exe is and why it uses 100%cpu.

WindowsXP. .. .

And no real problems here with IE7. Just a few discontinued installations ( 10 < 100 )  .. nothing a reboot didn't fix.

imho IE7 is the best secured browser in the market right now. And not because it's save from viri and trojans (hardly). But because it supports the most security standards.

Are you serious about win xp reinstall?

I won't be doing that until I have a good way of backing up data, which will most likely be getting a new computer...

Ewido/AVG Antispyware (you already mentioned that one, right ?) and a trial edition of Nod32. Remove the process from ever starting up using autoruns (google it, its from systernals).

I would feel pretty confident it was clean after that, but the only way to be really sure is to reinstall/re-image.

I got rid of the dssagent.exe and other related stuff as shown on a website.

Maybe my computer will seem to run faster now.

Trying to install IE7 again.

I installed IE7 again, and the wallpaper is all messed up. Interestingly both versions (diff resolution) of the wallpaper look like crap. But all the default windows ones work fine. Even the other wallpapers I downlaoded worked fine.

This is the wallpaper I used and want to use but is messed up.

Stratos

Also IE7 installed fine, but it still left the two folders full of files. Weird.
