Vanguard3000
I have two USB ports and a speaker/headphone jack on the front panel of my computer case, and I'd like to know how to hook it up on my motherboard. My motherboard is an Asus, so it's pretty good, but the case is probably foreign, and has different labels on the USB wire leads. For example, the mobo panel has:USB+5V USB+5VUSB_P5- USB_P6-USB_P5+ USB_P6+GND GND NCAnd the wire leads say:G (black)PORT + (green)PORT - (white)VCC (red)(there are two of each)would these be compatible with each other? And how would I go about connecting them (i.e. does "Port+" connect with "USB_P5+"?)Also, how would I connect the speaker jack? The manual for my MoBo is here:http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/a8v-e_se/e2027_a8v-e_se.pdfPage 39 has info about the USB ports. Thanks for any help. erjin999
would these be compatible with each other? And how would I go about connecting them (i.e. does "Port+" connect with "USB_P5+"?)Yes, you are right. They connect like that to each other.Usually, one connector on the mobo has two USBs on it, with 9 pins (why 9 and not 8 ? :S). Each USB takes 4, so no idea what the 9th pin is there for !USB+5V -=> VCC (red)USB_P5- -=> PORT -USB_P5+ -=> PORT +GND -=> G (Black)The audio jack will connect to either your sound card in the PCI slot, or the sound card on your mobo. There will be a connector for that as well.
Vanguard3000
I've got the USB ports in now. Thanks. But I don't kno where to put the audio jacks. I have a speaker and microphone jack on the front panel as well, but the port on my Mobo where it looks like the leads should go have jumpers on them. Right now my leads are:-G (ground, yes?)-L (Left?)-R (Right)-Mic (Microphone)But the "front panel audio connector" guide shows:[bLINE_OUT_L] [Line out_L] (These two are jumpered together) [NC][bLINE_OUT_R] [Line out_R] (These two are jumpered together)[+5VA] [MICPWR][AGND] [MIC2]So I'm totally lost with this one. I'm betting the G lead connects to [AGND], and Mic connects with [MIC2], but where I would have thought to put the L and R leads are, there are jumpers.Again thanks for the USB thing, and any more help would be appreciated. erjin999
I dont know about your mobo, but to get the audio to come out the back, I have to have the connector jumpered, otherwise I can take off the jumpers and put on the front audio connectors. So long as that is the correct connector for your front audio, then you probably need to take off the jumpers.OMG, your manual is downloading at about 5k...so it might be a while !I will try to check the manual for where the connectors go.
