Well...

Y'have to know that the AI is designed this way: If it has ABSOLUTELY no chance, no hope to win the battle, he simply "gives up", and as a very last resort, attack you wit' Light infantry, and remaining battlefield units. This is quite a dumb thing to do, y'should never try it unless y'have a spare MCV.

At VERY VERY rare cases, the AI will fight until their last breath (they won't sell anythin'), but this is a VERY rare occassion. Mostly, if its chances of winning ceases to exist, it simply sells all his structures, and makes a "despair attack" on you based on "all or nothing".

This selling-all buildings will dramatically decrease your scores, so y'better avoid this, when fightin' wit' an AI opponent. Remember that the destroyed buildings has greater value than destroyed units. So how y'can avoid this selling-all stuff?

- First of all, if the AI loses ALL its Harvesters, it will immediately trigger the selling-all procedure. Try to keep at least one enemy Harvester alive (Deviated Harvesters are equal to "destroyed" Harvesters in this case).

- The next weak spot is the Refineries. If the AI loses all its Refineries, it will also trigger the selling-all procedure. Y'should keep at least one Refinery workin'.

- The Construction Yard is NOT a critical building, so destroyin' it won't trigger this selling-all attacking in most cases. However, it's a very wise thing to leave the Construction yard as a very last target, since the AI is dumb as can be, and will build further structures to replace the destroyed ones. So y'can destroy the newly popped-up buildings, obtaining serious high score.

- The destruction of the Construction Yard, however, will trigger something else: The importance of battlefield units production facilities will rise for the AI (apart from Palace, Hi-Tech, and such). So if the AI lost the Construction yard, it will keep fightin' until it has at least ONE production facility: Barracks, Light factory, Heavy factory and Starport. After y'destroy all of these, the AI shall sell all buildings, and so on...

- Sometimes the opponent sells turretguns or structures, if it has low power on the base. This is not critical, but frightening no doubt.

If y'want to have 100% suceess (in other words, y'wanna destroy ALL buildings), try to keep a Harvester, a Refinery, and the Construction Yard operational, and then, try to destroy the Construction yard and the Refinery in the SAME TIME! The most excellent tactic is to bring a Saboteur or Engineer next to the Construction yard, and then attack the Refinery wit' all your forces. When it gets destroyed, quickly order the Engineer/Saboteur to destroy/capture the Construction Yard. And there you go! 100% success! It's not that hard, just keep these advices in mind!  :D

I have observed this AI tactic in RA more than once, and surely the Dune2k AI adheres to RA AI.

In RA, it used to sell all of it's structures once all production facilities were lost. It is not the same case as when the AI sells structures to obtain money for a new refinery/harvester, or when power is low. Also, the AI sells structures when they're heavily damaged, and it's got no credits to repair.

Anyway, I have observed that these AI procedures probably can be overridden by scenario triggers (e.g. if you've got a mission to capture an enemy building, etc.)

Yes, you're right. In Red Alert 1, the AI also sold its buildings, but it was a bit different. In Red Alert, the AI sold structures, which are in bad condition (apart from the Construction yard), but the AI was even dumber than Dune 2000 AI, and haven't rebuilt anything. So if y'destroyed a Barracks, the AI will never rebuild it, no matter y'managed to destroy the Barracks, or just decrease its energy to red, and the AI sold it.

Note that the AI rarely used this selling tactic in campaign modes, and key mission buildings, as you said :) In Red Alert, I never noticed that the AI sold ALL buildings, and attack wit' infantry. Nah, it's typical Dune 2000 acting.

i found something strange , i  kicked out all buldings of ai except barrack and refinery

ai made engineer and he walked around, i placed very close to engineer strarport and he captured while were stones around it , and didnt sold it,  i did it to repair pad , heavy factory and next refinery  i used same way and he didnt sold any of them, when i destroyed refinery he didnt sold these buldings but he was making mcv's , and selling hem all (built it, deployed and sold, built it, deplyed and sold and again again again)

'twas strange! The AI never did such thing for me so far, really. However, once the AI ordered 5 MCVs for nothing, and they were just screwin' around in his base. It was also strange.

So all in all: The most common trigger for the selling-all buildings and "giving up" is to destroy all Refineries and Harvesters. The second option is to destroy the Construction yard, and production facilities.

Y'can't be serious. The AI ordered MCVs, deployed them, and then, sold them for nothing? Hmm...I must check this out, really :) How did y'do this, and which battlegroud?
