Linux OS?

Recommended Posts

I need an operating system to one of my computers, so I've decided to try out this Linux. As far as I know, it's free to download and all that.

But, I haven't figured it out. I've downloaded something called "Ark Linux", and it brought a lot of files but no ISO, so that I can burn it on a CD. Needless to say, I'm not that much skilled in computers to know all the ins and outs.

In other words, where can I get a Linux OS that is free and easy to burn and install?

(And if possible, it should be aviable in Swedish or have Swedish support.)

A month ago I made Linux thread.

I'm not sure about a swedish localization, although a lot of people are using Ubuntu linux (its free). Has a good forum for support with ~70,000 users.

And with Ubuntu linux, you can get a third party piece of software that will install software for you so that you don't have to install stuff individually.Automatix.

Ubuntu should have localizations.

Many linux distros hvae live cds which allow you to test out the OS before actually installing it.

I take it you are running a good computer (say that can handle win xp requirements?).

EDIT:

Swedish local wiki

Hmm

http://ubuntu-se.org/ <- swedish ubuntu? I don't know any swedish so..

Download for RedHat.

http://fedora.redhat.com/download/

Download for SuSe Linux.

http://www.novell.com/products/suselinux/downloads/suse_linux/index.html

Which suits me better at the moment then RedHat for support reasons.

Both give you ISO images.

Good luck, and just a warning. If you don't know alot about computers and installing. . don't have to high hopes for your endeavor.
