Dungeon Keeper Solution - Rambo With a Flamethrower

I have been going through some of my old games lately, and as Dungeon Keeper is one of my all time favorite games, I play it as often as I go through my games.

I prefer the original to "2", as it has somewhat clearer graphics (to me, anyway,).  I just don't like many of the 3d accelorated titles I've seen.

Anyway, once you get to a certain point, the level after the four wizards, I think, followed by the secret bonus level (hilarious strategy there... when you think about it).  You get to the level where it is open, there is very little tunnelling (except for gold) and there are dragons wandering around.

This level always screws me over.  Before I can get half of my research done, the enemy is invading and I am overrun by all these minions.  My land is taken, and I eventually die.

I can get the level to last a really long time, if I use my level 10 vampire from the bonus level to fight everything.

I think that the opponent is running faster than normal because of my fast processor.  In most of the previous levels, you can build up and go after the enemy, while this one is swamping you before you can even think.

Maybe, however, I am using bad strategy.  In the last time I tried the level, I brought some imps down the eastern border of the enemy's land and had them capture the treasure room.  By bringing my minions down that way I managed to fight a few interesting battles, but my imps were finally killed off and the game was more-or-less over.

  Any ideas?  Similar experiences?

That level is real easy without a patch installed. But damn hard when you have (the patch fixes the AI from nothing building more then a Lair and Hatchery)

I would recommend acquiring the Vampire for every next level (you can replay bonus levels over and over)

The trick in this level is to only use the Vampire. Send it to the Dungeon Heart of the enemy right away. There it should attack the heart, and also every new creature (since they all have to go to that heart at first)

Then build some rooms, and claim the portal. Then send all your new creatures to the enemy heart to attack it.

Btw, I prefer 1 over 2 too. Because the levels in 1 are much more fun.

Fascinating, that's exactly what I did.

I call it, "Rambo with a Flamethrower."  Instead of the vampire, though, I transfered a level-ten dragon from the previous level.  After having my imps dig the hole south I possessed the dragon and went straight for the dungeon heart.  All I had to do was hold down the left mouse button for the flamethrower to take out the enemy heart (though I had to tap "2" a few times to heal when the enemies came in too hard).

I was ecstatic when the strategy worked.  It was amazing.

Yea, the Vampire is almost immortal, but doesn't do alot of damage. It's combat counterpart, however, does that very well: The Horned Reaper. But that one only has one spell, even on level 10.

I've always found those 2 to be in perfect contrast with each other.

But Dragons work too, it seems. Although they are sooo slow...

I don't remember that level. I beat the game a few years ago. But some levels were a real pain in the ass, though most of the time HUMANS gave me the problems.

Funny eh?

Posessing a dragon made the game too easy, I think. I could easily kill as many enemies as I wanted without getting hurt...

I had an easy time completing the game.

However, it's one of the most fun games I've ever played.
