CBC playing BBC world news

Since there is a strike going on between CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and the union they are showing BBC world news instead of the national :(

I want Peter Mansbridge!

Or for you Americans, "I want to [Mount] Peter Mans Bridge" ;)

I don't think the CBC can afford this strike, A lot of people might switch over to other channels.

And hockey was just getting back on track. Watching CSI instead.

Now I can not get my local news or weather from http://pei.cbc.ca/ it just redirects me to cbc.ca.

Oddly, I cant find the cbc union by googling it. Maybe under CUPE though.

Edit: seems to be the canadian media guild.

Yeah they had a strike at BBC News recently too, though they managed to keep showing their own programmes. The people who took over had no idea what was going on and were pretty unprepared. It was quality TV. ;)

The BBC now show American world news (ABC as I recall) very late at night. It's quite interesting - they're generally noticeably... how shall I say... less guarded than BBC.

Is the CBC properly nationalised?

If by 99% of all Canadians have access to the channel for free, then yes.

Unless you mean does it show the same shows everywhere in canada, then no.

The french CBC usually shows French related television. It's all demographics too. People in B.C. might not get the same show as people in N.S. But a lot are similar.

Less guarded? You mean more open?! They seem to miss out on important international events and have a load of stupid 'happy' stories that only a few local-yocals would give a damn about. ABC News is awful.

Less guarded in the sense of tending to ignore obscurities and ambiguities.

Interesting as in to see how they work, I'm not making any judgements on the excitement of content.

Oh yes same. It is interesting to see how they present the 'World' News, but I wouldn't trust their word. Actually I just don't trust news companies at all, including the BBC. Only when something happens infront of my own eyes will I believe it 100%.
