Hello guys, my girlfriend want to by a notebook and I'm confused between Intel Centrino Technologies and Intel HP technologies

What's the best deal with those ? Because the best Intel Pentium M processor for Centrino goes to 2.13Ghz and Mobile Intel Pentium 4 HP processor goes to 3.46Ghz...

I know Centrino is supposed to be best for mobile technologies, but 3.46Ghz with wireless internet does the same no...

thanks for your help , because I'm sure you know salesman better than me (The higher price is the better deal)  :P

centrino is the platform, not the cpu...

the difference between pentium-m and the desktop cpus is that the pentium-m has a much lower power consumption and produces less heat. the mhz of the pentium-m are much more powerful that the mhz of a standard intel cpu. you usually multiply it with 1,6 or 1,7 - so a 2.00GHz pentium-m is about between 3,2 and 3,4 GHz real power...

the sonoma platform is coming now - the follower of the centrino platform. also the new pentium-m cpus are available now which have an increased fsb up to 533. the sonoma platform supports dual channel which the centrino does not and which was always the slow-down of pentium-m cpus. it also features ddr2 and sata2 technology.

the best thing about this is: aopen will soon provide a new mainboard based on the sonoma platform which you are about to use in desktop pcs... I saw this mainboard at the cebit and maybe I'm going to get one to build a new desktop pc with a cpu supposed to work in mobile pcs... this is intel's nightmare of course... because the new pentium-m needs only 1/5 of the power and produces only 1/5 heat compared to their prescott cpus but they have the same power and since the new sonoma platform supports dual channel ddr2 it will definitely kick ass :)

but anyway, back to your question: get a notebook with centrino platform or wait for a good sonoma notebook to become little cheaper (some are already available) but don't ever get a notebook with a p4 mobile in it...

Or just get a notebook with an AMD Athlon-M 64, get a higher clock, larger cache, and faster bus, with the drawback of a little more power and heat.  And save approximately $14256143 USD.

Centrino tech. is fine if you (like veK here, seeing the advice he gives people) can buy your PC with whatever the hell you want in it, cost as no object.  The AMD Athlon-M 64 may not be as well optimized as the Centrino; it may put out more heat and gobble more power, but it operates just as fast (if not faster) at often less than half the cost.

Depending on the function of the notebook. I have two HP notebooks same series, one mobile 2 ghz CPU and one normal 3gig CPU. Although the 3ghz one is faster for application use, when it comes to battery life and "notebook preformance" I prefer the mobile version.

So with the power cord attached the 3ghz is faster. But bigger and produces more heat. The 2ghz is smaller, without the cord the battery lasts longer and give an overall more stable idea.

Both are HP buisness notebooks, the 3gig version was about 200 Euro less then the 2ghz.

I agree that if you plan to use your notebook primarily for mobile use, ie. battery life and portability being the primary concerns, it may be beter to go with a more mobile-optimized processor.  But when it comes to sheer power (especially while plugged into an AC power source), the AMD Athlon-M 64 outperforms, without fail, any other mobile processor, bar none.  And it is far less expensive than its closest Intel counterparts.

That said, I would certainly like to have a smaller, cheaper notebook to take to school...this thing weighs in at almost a whopping 9 pounds, and is about 1.75 inches thick.

I wouldn't buy an AMD mobile... AMD rocks with server cpus (opteron) and with their desktop cpus but the mobile cpus aren't that good. the next AMD mobile processor "Turion" is coming soon, this one will be great I think but the current AMD mobiles aren't compared with pentium-m

maybe you should check prices and then see what's important for you and what not and then decide...

thanks for all your advice, but the main question is wath my girlfriend really want speed or mobile action, so Im gonna have to really speak with her to make sure she bought the good thing.  Because I don't want her to complain about is notebook afterall.

And after the purchase I'm gonne be free to use my desktop alone

Yeah
