Dont worry, the game only shows a max of four, but at one point I am shure there were more then 8 entering the hosted game.

Just go and host a two player game, and watch everyone flood into your game  8)

Hosting two player is better, as then you can add two AI if only one other person joins, something you cannot do if you choose to host a 4 player... Thats how most of us do it.
