Think of the boards as being boxes filled with threads, and the child boards being smaller boxes inside these boxes. The threads in the smaller boxes are technically in the larger boxes as well, but you won't find them there.

No, you'll find them in the smaller boxes. *Sigh* Alright, let's take an example.

Fed2k Discussion is a big box, and inside that is the smaller box General. Here topics such as Site Updates can be found. Also in General is the smaller box Fed2k News. In Fed2k News you can find such topics as The Origins of House Ordos Revealed and Downloads. The Origins of House Ordos Revealed, therefore, can be found in the smaller box, which is in the big box. You cannot find The Origins of House Ordos Revealed in the big box, because it is hidden in the small box.
