For some unknown reason mails are being send ( my contact list ) in my name containing virusses. As i did not send those mails myself, they cant be scanned or blocked by norton

Do you use Yahoo web-based email services or do you usually send them from an locally installed email client ?

If you send them from a local email client, are you shure they don't origionate from your computer ?

What is causing this and what can be done to stop it?

Probably someone who is faking your email address as the senders ID, you can check the messages themselfs to see from where they origionate to do a backtrace and find out. :)

If you are using a web based email account it's probably not something local on your PC you can remove or change.

Have you tried what Andrew suggested, changing your password ?

Well, how about deleting all temporary files, all temporary internet files and all cookies.

And did you do a virus scan of your computer?

How about a spyware scan? (ad aware or spybot, whatever your preference.)

if you are using webbased email, and changing your password didn't help I woul dsay there is not much you can do about it. It's an hacked account or just someone using an open-email relay or own email server. You can have a look at the email header. An example of one is below.

I delete the temp files and cookies daily and I use norton, ad aware SE and regcleaner to keep my computer clean.

I have nothing to do with those spam/virus mails but it is fustrating

that my email adress is being used

I can imagine, although there is not much you can do about it. Besides not havig a guessable email address and mentioning it on the internet to often.
