"Honest question: Is English your first language?"

Last time I asked someone that, it ended up in the dungeon. I really ought to find out why.

"Conclusion: since nobody wants to understand anything or very few"

We would like to understand. We just can't.

"Someone getting A?s by learning by heart does not mean that he have achieve a lot"

Depends on the examination board and the subject. Normally here, you will be required to learn some things, but in order to get an A, you need to be able to actually perform the processes, to think, to have the mental capacity, and to work to understand. But (I'm not sure you're suggsesting this) you cannot give out As for effort and not for acheivement, since that means the abilities of the able go undetected and no-one has any way of knowing how good anyone actually is at any job or university place, no matter how hard they try.

I think I can see what your saying - "I still think what you're saying is that results are no indication of 'success' in that people who do badly can still 'succeed' on their own terms by trying hard, or by getting a C when they were predicted to fail" sums it up better than I could have put it. And to an extent, I agree with your sentiment. Where my position differs from yours is that we congratulate those who work well and the results they deserve, we disapprove of those who do no work and get nowhere, we extend our *condolences* to those who have worked hard but unfortunately receive unwarrantedly low results, and we attribute better results than work deserves to sheer luck.

I'd like to point out that universities conduct interviews as well. Some do conduct tests, some don't. Some do for certain subjects.
