Did anybody hear that Jack Ryan(IL) dropped out of the race for the U.S Senate?

http://www.hoinews.com/news/headlines/852462.html

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2004-06-25-ryan-statement_x.htm

I think its pretty dumb that they did that to him. Sure what he was doing wasent very cool but it wasent hurting anybody. His private life dosent effect his work...and I dont see why the media had to ruin his campaign and make him drop out. I thought he was a good candidate for the position and would have supported him if I were of age. He would have made a fine congressmen......

They got on his case for "lieing" about this whole thing. What business is it of theres what he does in his free time. I think this is outrageous.....all they did was look for a low blow and went for it...bastards.

His wife had a hand in this aswell.....the way I see it , he wanted to have his son live with him and she wanted him so when he fought to keep his son she wanted payback so she sold him up the river with these divorce documents.....

The whole thing pisses me off.....

Happy as I was to see him leave the race, and happy as I am to see a new example of right-wing hypocrisy, I have to agree.  A person's private and public lives should be completely separate.

Posted

Than why are you happy to see him leave the race......

I think he would have done quite a good job in office...he was a good man, loving father....and hes quite smart. I dont think that this thing should have made everybody freak out and force him to quit....thats just lame.....and it discusts me...

Oh come on, what he did was no different than rape.

He forced his wife to have sex against her will.

What's the definition of rape?

Sexual activity carried out against the victims will.

Do you really think a rapist should be elected Senator?

Clinton may have been a horndog, but it was all consensual.

Consensual sex (even if it is freaky sex clubs):  A persons own buisness and doesn't have anything to do with a political career.

Rape:  Damn straight it should force the perpetrator to end his career in politics.  Should throw him in jail for 18-20, but that's not gonna happen.

Not right for Jeri Ryan or the kid to have to go through all this, not at all, but it's the husbands fault, not theres or the media in this case.  Although we don't need any details like some people are trying to get.  The knowledge that he did it is enough.

Because his politics of self-interest represent everything I loathe.  He supports tort reform, vouchers, and NCLB, and all of those policies are terrible mistakes.

So according to you....if say I was married...and I wanted to have sex that night and my wife wasent interested and I bugged her and talked her into it even though she wasent into it...that would be rape? I dont consider it rape unless you physically force the person into having sex with you. Ryan atleast did this with his wife....unlike Clinton who cheated on his wife and slept with his intern.......AND HE WAS PRESIDENT!

Ryan had good intrests and would have made a fine senator....

I am sorry to see him leave the race..

Oh come on, there's a big difference between trying to talk your wife into having sex and taking her to a fetish parlor and forcing her to have public sex with you.

FORCING HER.

Your wife can refuse.  Jeri felt she had no choice, according to the documents.

And Bill didn't rape an intern, he cheated on his wife.  That's not nice but it isn't a crime, especially compared to rape.  He was also impeached for it.

(btw, I have no idea what this guys politics are.  Did not even know he was a reublican until now, and it doesn't fucking matter despite what you are trying to imply.  If a democrat did it I'd be saying the same thing)

totally agree mahdi.

But I have my own opinions on the matter which I dont think mahdi or many others would agree with. His private life is very important to know about. I mean we all arent perfect, and we do make mistakes in this life, but a public leader should be held to higher standards. For example, I am thinking of becoming a police officer for the bellingham police department. I am going to have to quit my smoking, as it is not allowed on the force. I cannot have any sort of record with the police. I also am required to have "a strong moral character", in order to be apart of the force. Why? because I am enforcing justice of course! Now if a simple police officer walking the beat in small and large cities alike is required to have an upright character, cannot smoke or cannot have any record, well darn it that should be required for even higher offices. This guy makes me sick, and I am glad he is resigning. It istn a matter of politics but principle. Rarely should principle be inmeshed with politics, but if something as personal and degrading to a person as this shows up, then of course it should be a factor in if he should be a politician. That is my opinion though.

another hipocracy that really bothers me is that many republicans are saying "what is in a person's private life shouldnt be mixed into politics."

Clinton was impeached...but not convicted....which when it all comes together = squat.....

Ryan did not grab his wife and tell her he would hurt her if she dident do it.....he just said that he wanted her to do it and he wouldent back down but she felt she couldent say no to him.....he dident actually force her....she just gave in. That dosent mean she had to like it anyways....

Im not saying that he is a super good person but he would have made a good politician. Just as Clinton...he was a shitty person but a great politician.

??

Go ahead.  Try it.  Go to a girl, lock her in a room, and keep telling her over and over again that she has to have sex with you.  See what kind of prison sentence you get.

Posted

1. Ryan did not lock his wife in a "room". She was in a club where she could have walked out at any time. She just decided it would have been better to just give in to her husband.

2. And the way you describe it wont be considered rape....at most sexual harrasment....

wasn't his wife from star-trek?

they should have made a trade-off; he goes to her conventions, she goes to his sex-clubs

She was apparently Seven of Nine from Voyager.

And isn't his punishment supposed to fit his crime?  If it's cruel (which Star Trek conventions may well be) and unusual (that's a given), the Constitution says: NO.

Did any of you read the article? Jeri Ryan is quoted as saying that she refused to have sex with her husband in the sex parlor. No forced intercourse occured.

Posted

Well there you go Mahdi..... :)

On another note:

But yeah the two shows I rember her being on were Voyager and Boston Public. She did a great job on both of them. Though I dont watch Boston Public, I saw every episode of Voyager.....

Shes the classic hot chic in a tv series....and boy is she good at it!  :)

Also in the articles you see that neither wanted these documents released.  Oh by the way, this has inspired Republicans to demand the unsealing of John Kerry's divorce records.

Posted

Perhaps Dan, though if released, Democrats can only hope the divorce wasn't over an affair with an intern.  That would be a slap in the face of the DNC.
