Each preacher is a Church official. Every active christian is a Church official.

Every active Catholic.  But that's beside the point, since what I said was "the official policies," not "the officials."  The Vatican officially believes that gay marriage should be outlawed.  Some Roman Catholics I know do not.  Hence the distinction.

Official policy is nothing else than most usual thought. Some catholics may think so, but most of them are against, for example, gay marriages. Not saying that Bible declares such relationship as sodomy and traditionally it was by such way interpreted for two millenia. Also now, under influence of psychology and such sciences are gays viewed more as ill, not sinful, people, so talking about "official policies" as something independent from any catholic is a nonsense.

The sorts employed about haf a century ago, by which the likes of Alan Turing were 'treated' for this 'illness'. He committed suicide, after his life had thereby been ruined.

And that's my point.  I'm not going to walk around saying, "All Catholics oppose gay marriage," because it's not true.  However, I can say, "The Catholic Church opposes gay marriage," because that is.

Well, it's true that we catholics have still free minds, and thinking separately from others. As when I say that Mexicans like tequila I don't have to mean that all Mexicans are drinking it 24 h per day, you know.
