18's a safe bet, but I think you can do it with parental support at any time. Maybe even without, if you know how.

And I wasn't implying that the democrats are somehow better. I just find the descriptions above to be curiously apt (though I admit I don't know who some of those people are...).

Sort of related forward I got.  You could say supporting the Bush Administration in the following is the key to being a good Republican also.

How many members of the Bush Administration are needed to replace a light bulb?

The Answer is SEVEN:

1. one to deny that a light bulb needs to be replaced,

2. one to attack and question the patriotism of anyone who has questions

about the light bulb,

3. one to blame the previous administration for the need of a new light bulb,

4. one to arrange the invasion of a country rumored to have a secret

stockpile of light bulbs,

5. one to get together with Vice President Cheney and figure out how to pay

Halliburton Industries one million dollars for a light bulb,

6. one to arrange a photo-op session showing Bush changing the light bulb

while dressed in a flight suit and wrapped in an American flag,

7. and finally one to explain to Bush the difference between screwing a

light bulb and screwing the country.

Not at all. Supporting the Bush Administration doesn't make someone a good Republican. (You might say it doesn't make you a good anything.) There are Republicans who question Bush, who do not follow him and are currently unhappy with his Administartion. George F. Will, a famous conservative columnist, or Robert Kagan, another representative of the neoconservative movement. Both these men have expressed displeasure with the President, and in fact, many others agree with them. The truth is not subject to partisanship for rational men.
