Currently I`m using 800 x 600 in almost all my games and my desktop, but the icons and graphics look very "pixeled" (I hope you know what I mean).

For example, the graphics in C&C generals  in 800 x600, look pixeled but run smoothly; In 1024 x 768 they don`t look "pixeled", but the game has lag.

What can I do to avoid the pixeling problem without changing from 800 x 600?

This problem depends of the screen monitor?

The monitor has nothing to do with screen resolutions and the speed of the game, except for that monitors have a maximum resolution they can handle. Mostly those resolutions are either 1280 x 960 or 1600 x 1200, but that really depends on the monitor type (and size) You can find the limits in the manual of the monitor...

The pixeling problem, as you call it, is because of the relative low resolution you choose. When you choose 800 x 600, you can display less pixels on your screen then if you have a resolution of 1024 x 768. The only way to avoid the big pixels, is to increase the resolution (well, you have some options, sometimes, which can blur the images, so they won't look very pixelated)

And if your game is lagging because of that, that depends either on the game, or how good your video-card is (well, you always need a processor which can keep up with the video-card)

Not really. Sometimes it is because the game is programmed badly, and it lags by itself when settings are to high values.

However, I don't think a game such as C&C Generals will lag by itself on such a resolution. So in this case it must be the computer...
