One tool I've found noticeably lacking in modding is something to easily navigate ini files.

I've started work on one (as attached). The most important concept is being able to move between the headings in square brackets, with a list similar to a contents page of a book: in the vastness of such as Emperor's Rules.txt file, the search function is sometimes just a little impractical.

So, here is the first attempt. Obviously, there are bits missing. For those who can programme in these modern applications better than I (many of you, I'd expect), feel free to make your own, if you think you can do things better.[attachment archived by Gobalopper]

Nema, that is an excellent utility. Absolutely fantastic. I downloaded it, and it works on half a dozen other games. Just open a script, select the header and hit update... and it worked fantasticly. Truly excellent, I'm adding this to Dune Editing at once, and I'd like to recommend that you submit it to www.lancersreactor.com or let me do so on your behalf. This program is like I said, fantastic.

Let me work on it for a bit. You can't currently copy and paste, which is a bit of a pain. If anyone knows how to programme something like this into VB, please tell me.

Do be aware that the Emperor Rules.txt file takes a damn long time to update.

This is a nicer version, and, thanks to Cyborg, the parser is much quicker to update (and it's cleverer, and, I think, will ignore brackets in comments).

Be careful, because I think the 'Open file' box can lose anything you haven't saved even if you cancel the operation.

Uploads not working yet... will update.

i thought the ini editor was written specificly for some ini files. So you can do 'quicksearch' between them, have logic and pre-made windows so you can easily add/specify/edit properties of entries, thats all :)

edit:

i tried it, but i get an error about a dll file missing. Its probably one of those bloatware dll files of Basic that i need to download before i can get this to work. Perhaps you can include these later on in a final release?

but have you only installed VC++ 6.0?

I thought they came in developer studios, like Visual Studio 6.0...

That's what I have.

Visual Studio contains Vc++ and VB.

It also has a developer environment applicationi which I've used to make css stylesheets.

Last it contains Fox Pro, something I've never understood how to use...
