Emosh73
Hi there,Here are my specs....Tbird 1.4 Asus A7M-266512 megs of crucial DDR pc2100Evil Kyro2 by HerculesHercules GTXP sound card20 gig IBM GXPAsus 50 speed cdromWindows 2k sp2Dir X 8.0aWould you believe that the game still runs sluggish under some circumstances!!!I thought with my set up why not max out everything right? I did and yet the game takes long to load!!!When I have many units on the ground and give the command the whole mass formation to move it gets sluggish for awhile!! with shadows turned all the way up it gets real sluggish!!! so I set it to medium and it runs ok.The game also kicks me to desk top randomly!!!So what the heck type of specs does it take to run this game proper I wonder?has anyone got the game to run smooth with maxed out graphics? are these issues normal? quoudam72
You shouldn't have everything max-out so much tone it down and the game may run better.
nemafakei
Win 2000 is your problem, I think. It takes up a lo of CPU time and RAM.
alphabeta4000
that is probably what is wrong as well and stop putting on top settings it might affect that as already pointed out
Gobalopper
How much RAM is on your video card?I have lower specs then you but a 64MB graphics card and can run the game at 1600x1200 max details without slowdown.
Emosh73
This can't be right!!!!!I have 64 megs on my card yet it runs sluggish with many units on the map!!! this is so strange!!!
gryphon
I also think win 2k is the main problem. It's great but just not suitable for a lot ofgames.
quoudam72
I'm glad you guys are pointing this stuff out about Windows 2000 cause I was just about to upgrade. You have possibly saved me a very big headache.
gryphon
It's not that win 2k is all bad !You just have to pick the windows ( or evenunix / linux ) version that's best for what you need.If you'd like LAN or WAN networks, win 2k isn't that bad.You might even say it's good. But hardware support and games, if you have hardware that is supported by win 2kit will work great, but if you don't............
nemafakei
Login times over a network can easily treble from NT to 2000. The security background stuff takes up far too much resources, and so computers with 2000 are just too slow (unless you have a VERY good PC). Â Thus, it is bad for games. And what's worse, incompatibility and security grumbles may even restrict you playing Dune II!
gryphon
Yep, you can smoothen the login by usinga secundairy Novell network, but then it's not win 2k anymore. And Nema Fakei is ( probbebly ) wright, someof the most simple DOS games you can't playwith win2k.So mutch for technological progress  ::)
nemafakei
As soon as you get a good OS working, you have to upgrade it to the newer version, and then you need new hardware to run it. This cycle has been going since about 1986.
