Zero Hour LAN Problem

I have two computers, one running Windows XP the other running Windows 98SE on a network. My one (Win98SE) can't see the other but the other (XP) can see mine and whenever it tries to join a game I created a message comes up saying 'Connection Timed Out'. These computers can see eachother on the network though. My computer is running Zonealarm but the other computers IP address is on it's 'safe list'.

just a guess at this point, although C&C could need a computer identification to find the other in the lobby. Can you try it with Zonealarm down or even better compleately disabled ?

I would suggest that you completly remove the zone alarm program.

I still remember the time that i could not read my e-mail box, even with zone alarm off.

I had to uninstall it to fix the problem :O

Are you networked computer-to-computer, using a hub, or using a router? And how do the IPs work?

Regardless, try to get the network functioning 100% before playing LAN games. Both computers should be able to access each other without problems in order for the network to function properly. Try to make sure you have the right protocols and services installed on each computer. Get into your network settings and make sure that each computer has the following protocol:

Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

and the following services:

Client for Microsoft Networks

File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks (I don't think it's absolutely necessary, but put it on here anyway)

QoS Packet Scheduler (same as File/Printer sharing)

We can play eachother in Return To Castle Wolfenstein. They are linked uding a Router which is connected to a cable modem. I've tried it with ZoneAlarm off.

Can you varify that you have TCP/IP, NetBIOS and IPX insatalled as protocols on both computers.

Can you only not-see the WinXP computer in your Zero Hour lobby, or is it also absent in your local network environment ?

Last one. . .did it stop working at some point or have you just installed it and it never worked ?

The Win98SE one cant see the XP one in Lobby but it is fine in othe games and I can access its files as well. My computer (Win98SE) has NetBios IPX and TCP/IP installed but I don't know about the other ones. It has never worked since installation
